I’m so glad that this release is now available to everyone!
I just wanted to clarify that this change is actually part of the Segment List and not the Properties Editor.
Also, the new Places List is not enabled by default. You will need to go into the Config Panel and hit the checkbox next to the purple icon for “Select places”. In addition, the Image Preview is only currently available for the first photo.
Finally, the new Forum Inbox check may need some clarification on how it currently works. If you have anything unread in your forum inbox, you will get an orange warning message when you start Toolbox. If not, you will see the blue message. For the orange warning, you can click on the words “Private Message” to actually open your inbox in a separate tab. The setting in the Config Panel controls how long before Toolbox repeats the check, but this setting is only available to editors of rank 3+. Anyone who is rank 1 or 2 will not even see the config setting. The result is that rank 1 or 2 editors have an inbox check set to 30 minutes with no way to adjust the frequency or disable it. For 3+ editors who wish to disable it in the Config Panel, only the recurring check is disabled, not the initial check when you open Toolbox. All of this is by design and is not a bug.
Fascinating. Now, we lobby waze team to add this feature to WME. They can tie this into whatever they currently use to autocreate the forum account if the account does not exist.
This can ultimately provide one more way to flag down new users.
Yes, but — if we could get the waze team to build JUST THIS FEATURE of toolbox into the WME that EVERYBODY uses, it would force them to be aware of their PM inbox. Especially if, for really new editors, that orange box would prevent them from editing until they CHECKED their PM. Just think how many promising new editors could be reached before they deleted too many high-traffic roads or created big messes they would have to clean up later…
developers: How would you feel if some “how to use the features of toolbox” information were to be added to the wiki page? I purely cannot figure out how to use the “select” feature the way I want to, and cannot figure out if I am doing it wrong, if toolbox doesn’t work the way I think I’m trying to use it, or if it is meant to work that way but has still not completely recovered from the WME upgrade…
I am trying to view the lock levels of various segments. I limit columns to street type, and select minor highway. I then click the “grid” icon to see only that row. And I turn on the “lock level” column, and hit that “grid” icon again. Now I see all the mH listed by lock level. But the select button doesn’t work. Should it work this way or not?
Are you volunteering to write documentation?
Toobox has a small “Help” area, but it does not go into much detail. Whether documentation belongs there or in the wiki could be discussed as well.
I proposed something very similar here, over 4 months ago. Unsurprisingly a few people liked the idea but nothing was heard from Waze.
It just goes to prove the advantage of having scripts that are not provided by Waze themselves. The script authors respond to requests, they do so promptly and they introduce the features we actually want/need.
Perhaps my idea could be implemented by Toolbox instead? If someone starts Toolbox and hasn’t logged into the forum for more than a set amount of time (or ever), Toolbox could ask them to click a link to log into the forum, before “releasing” the edit screen? It wouldn’t be as good as making all editors visit the forum - but at least those who install Toolbox would get the “nudge”.
I am volunteering to write documentation about the things I feel like documenting
Initially, I think the sensible place for that is in the wiki, because that is an easy-to-use collaborative location for document development. Much easier than the forum, for example.
I don’t even care about discussing whether you want to put more extensive documentation in the pop-up, or just provide a link to the wiki page. As long as I can find documentation, I’m happy. Even if I write it myself, I’m likely to forget what it says and need to refer to it later.
As for this one – I suggest documentation of the INTENDED behavior, along with a warning of the bug. When the feature is either fixed or removed, that can be changed. Say yes, and I’ll go ruin your wiki page immediately.
I think waze team should implement, big time, the “orange-box” PM feature for all editors, and make it especially difficult to ignore for the beginners, so they MUST clear their PMs before continuing to edit. Because communication trumps editing at this stage.
Not sure if this is a known issue or not but there appears to be an offset with one of the Permalink icons. (See Photo Attached)

Sorry about that, the middle icon, is not level with the rest? It’s the “Click to request an unlock on the Waze forum” it appears offset, was just curious if that was by design or an issue that is only effecting me…lol I realize its a lock that appears to be unlocked.
Hmm, I’ll have to see if I can whip up some icons. Not that I’m complaining about the current ones or saying they need to be changed, was just curious. Thank you though!
Alright, heres what I came up with. Here is my suggestion for the permalink icons & order.
I updated the icon for UPDATE requests to the universal updates symbol & flipped the “lock” for unlock request, as per the visual standard of lock photos, it was backwards…lol
