We didn’t change any of this – so it would have been this way in the previous release as well.
I suspect that with the AM responsibilities no longer being tied to a rank, that’s when Oyyo changed this.
I’m not inclined to be tweaking this at this time – you really should be an AM to use it, I think. Is there something preventing you from becoming an AM?
In the version 1.4.4.4 release it was changed from rank based to role based so all rank 3 tools were made available only to AMs, and all rank 5 tools were for CMs. Subsequently (v1.4.4.7) rank was added back
So they should work, given Waze staff indication that they want to divorce rank and role, allowing a rank 4 or 5 who was never an AM, and an AM who is only rank 2. It should now work according to the changelog for AM or rank 3.
Though I agree it’s probably better limited to at least AM, so we know their edits have had some QA, there are still people getting rank 3 through support anecdotally in the US.
Looking at our code, which is based on 1.4.4.9 (the last release with external map links), the “Suppress Unneeded Junctions” feature is for AM, CM and Rank >=5.
I don’t know if this is an oversight by OyyoDams, or intentional. One task to undertake in the coming days will be to review all the functions of Toolbox with the Champs, and determine if the permissions are appropriate.
I stopped using the “suppress unneeded junctions” feature because I felt it was a bit overenthusiastic. For example, it would merge adjacent segments with different levels (i.e. ground, +1 etc). Sometimes, this might be a good idea, but I think the editor should be required to make a specific decision.
I’d go back to using it if it had the same test as Validator, i.e. if Validator flags pairs of segments blue for unneeded nodes, then hitting the sweep key on Toolbox would remove the nodes Validator flagged, but only those nodes. Hitting the sweep button and finding other nodes unexpectedly removed too is not what I want.
I spend a large portion of time in areas that have not been touched at all since base import. The suppress unneeded junctions function was/is EXTREMELY useful there.
If you want to tweak it to be smarter about what’s ‘unneeded’ (I know that we now want 3 segments in a loop instead of 2 for instance), that’s fine. I just really miss the function. =(
To answer the question, I haven’t gotten around to applying to be an AM yet. I probably will soon. I was hoping to get the area nice and clean first, which that junction removing feature would really help with lol.
I had it before, is all, and I miss it. Would’ve been better if I didn’t know it existed lol.
The main thing that bugs me about it is that since it is completely rebuilding, WME then puts the updating editor’s name on as the creator. That doesn’t bother me for a roundabout on a street that is unquestionably justified, but we have a lot of little ones in parking lots that perhaps should not be mapped, but they are, and when deleted, someone comes along and rebuilds them after a few weeks.
One of my favorite features though, is the ability to convert a roundabout into a round road.
Very handy for “lollipops” where the loop is justified by the diameter of the park in the center, and for those “interesting” bits of architecture where round parking lots circle a building.
I do wish we weren’t limited to 100m… I had one a few weeks ago that was around 130m and had to build it manually.
You should get it soon when you get approved for AM, even you only ask for a small area [emoji12] .
It was just confirmed to me that support is still upgrading people to rank 3 without champ approval, even though it is supposed to be only through champ review in the US. So we still need to careful giving potentially dangerous tools to editors with possibly no QA on their edits.
If you want it now, I would suggest asking for a small area, perhaps the area you’re cleaning up already. You can show off the completed section as a sample of your work.
Updated the Toolbox to the new 1.4.6.1. Great job for all who’s resurrected this wonderful tool.
The one thing I found with the new version so far is that the Auto-Fix Reverse Connections and Auto-Fix U-Turns don’t seem to work well. Sometimes they work, most of the time they don’t. Are there changes to this functionality?
