Southampton

There’s a junction I’d love to clean up, but it’s got a few locked sections from a level 4 editor. Anyone want to have a go at it?

Who is the level 4 editor? There aren’t many of us in the UK and all of us are contactable either through the PM function on these boards or the info here, http://bit.ly/WazeAMs

OK I’ve unlocked it all (I Think). Nearly edited the whole lot but though you might want to do it.

Why anyone would lock a junction in that state is beyond me?

Just looking around the map I notice a lot of road names that don’t follow the convention in the Wiki … I could spend hours here, but I’ve already got my hands full with sorting Nottingham out!

Who was the L4? Name and shame!

He’s a North American User … one of their top editors! :?

Thanks Dave. Tidied it up a bit with local knowledge

I’ll have a look at the naming conventions in the wiki and see what I can do there.

Found some more jondrush activity making this difficult to tidy up:

I think I’ve unlocked most of them for you.

A lot of the junctions roads here a way too complicated. Simplification is the way to go.

I really don’t fancy work out the turn restrictions for this:

Yet with some simplification it could be useable!

Thanks again Dave.

That junction you pointed out is just a cross roads. No idea why it’s got so complicated. No turns are restricted if it’s simplified down to four roads meeting!

Nooooo, leave Six Dials alone. I’ve locked that one deliberately. It works. Simplifying it will likely create havoc. The reality is that it is a nightmare junction, it deserves the horror that it is in Cartouche.

Agreed a lot of the naming conventions in Southampton are wrong. Whenever I’ve worked it on (as one of the AMs for it), I’ve prioritised getting a name on there, and usually forgotten about adding directions for carriageways.

Kieron

Based on a good suggestion from Graeme over Twitter I’ve reduced some of the complexity of this junction and removed a lot of junction points that were serving no purpose, because you could only go straight on. Now there are a load of roads that run over each other without junctions. I’m hoping this will retain ‘keep left’ instructions etc from the voice prompts.

Kieron

Having looked at it again it is better, but do we really need a bus lane that runs parallel to (and is labelled as) Northam Rd? If it’s a turn off lane it shouldn’t it be labelled as Britons Rd?

Also there’s no through connectivity for the Bus lane or the main part of Northam Rd going East.

The first part of that is an “exit” lane to Brintons Road, but east of the junction it’s a bus lane, so I expect that could be no-entry or just deleted.

Just to expand on what Kieron said a few posts ago - Six Dials is a nightmare of a junction. On waze there were also dozens of junctions between roads that you could not turn off so in effect there were lots of pointless junctions with lots of turn restrictions. Kieron’s modified it to get rid of those so it should be simpler for the routing to work out what’s going on there. Hopefully the voice prompts won’t be affected but it should be quicker to get through - although on the ground that’s usually a different matter!

Cheers,

Sorry about that guys. I was messing around to see what I could and couldn’t do on the world server. Those roads were in bad shape when I found ‘em. Both tracks were both ways. Checking the locked box is an old habit when I make one-way roads. I had to keep reminding myself that the one-ways were opposite the good ol’ USA.
