Hi, I’m Callum but go by the alias Heeimweired pretty much everywhere online.
I’ve been using the Waze app on and off for a long time and recently decided to spend my free time a bit more constructively. I’ve found editing the map (tweaking bits, adding details etc) to be very satisfying and would love to continue to do so in an increasingly useful way.
I’m local the the Somerset Levels area, but regularly travel to the north of Bristol and up to York/Darlington.
I’m also particularly interested in doing site-visits if there are areas of the map (local-ish to me) that simply don’t have any online update data and where the best way to accurately update it is to have eyes on-target as it were.
Anyway, I’ll be online most days but not for very long each time so feel free to catch me on chat if you see me.
My name’s Andrew and I’m an alcoho… Wrong group? Oh!
Ahem!
My names Andrew. I’ve been editing since 2016 under the name PastaFasta but after having a lengthy break I thought I’d change my username to something more UR friendly. This seems like the right place to say hello again. Hello.
My job has taken me all over the country, some years racking up 40,000 miles (on top of 10 hours a day on site ). Waze has been an invaluable tool when travelling - it’s certainly saved me from getting caught out on many occasion. In 2016 I realised I could give a bit back by fixing some of the issues I’d found (or issues we’d created in the real world by closing or changing road layouts  ). I edited my way up to Area Manager, which was not something I had set out to become but you soon realise L1 is quite restrictive.
The break from editing was due to Covid. I caught Covid officially in December 2020 (unofficially in December 2019) and since then it’s been a bit of a battle. My health has deteriorated significantly and I’ve been off work since (give or take the odd failed return to work). I got back into editing as I thought it might give me something to focus on, improve my concentration span and alleviate the boredom - I’d forgotten how addictive it can be.
Hi I’m Mark not an Ian I’m afraid so I hope that doesnt stand againt me. I’m just starting to get in to the editing after a problem locally which SteveSnail was fixing for me and over some emails he suggested I should come and say Hi, certainly as others have said its a bit addictive you start with a problem that affects you and next thing you know your going in tweeking other things you know locally, I’m sure it will get worse if I ever get Level 2 to answer queries.
I am in Northstowe in cambridgeshire which is a development that will house 10,000 homes but currently I think we are at 1,500 with new ones going in all the time, along with new roads which are not yet on the satellite images . The problem is that we get lots of drivers lost in Northstowe as I see most of them on roads not open or my driveway. There are a few minor errors in the early roads put down mainly due to the way the developer likes to make wierd junctions making it hard to know which road is the main one. My personal bug bear is that there is a lot of private driveways shared by a few houses but delivery drivers keep using them thinking its a route to another road, due to the lack of data in the system yet.
As a Project Manager in the Defense Industry I do get out and about around the country and especially with my hobby as an event medic which sees me going to some very odd places, at the moment thats not showing up as i’ve not been using waze as much as I should but now its on all the time, this will hopefully give me a chance to make a difference, hopefully I wont mess up to much having been pointed at the guide but please if I do just message me so that I learn from it.
Hi all,
Brand new editor here. I’m Gavin from East Hertfordshire. I came across editing when I received a message from an editor requesting more information for something I reported. Funny part is I honestly have no recollection of reporting the issue. Anyway, this led me into this world of editing. My eyes opened. For a long time I have wondered how Waze got to be so amazingly up to date and had so much information, and then the other day it all made sense. So, I wanted to be a part. Give something into this wonderful system.
I watched the intro video and then a few days later stumbled upon a missing road when we went to Lincolnshire for a few days. I thought, GREAT - I can help here. This tested me. I watched and rewatched the video and created the missing road. Only I got a little stuck, but I think I got through it. I wondered when it would appear or if it would appear on the map - and lo and behold it did, after a day and a half. I hope I got it all correct.
Anyway, I’m happy to be a help where I can and I am always open to pointers and correction.
Im very new to Waze editing but have experience with mapping software so I am quickly getting use to it I’m based in the Wiltshire area and hope someone local can reach out as I’m in need of someone with a decent level to get me started and figure out how to get to a place where I can make a real impact.
Hi, I’m Stuart and I live in Shropshire. I am Salopian born and bred - grew up in Much Wenlock and now trying very hard not to be a grown up in Telford.
I’m new to Waze editing. I reported a few incorrect things through the app that didn’t get fixed so thought why not just do it myself?
I get out and about a lot in my local area. I’m a local councillor and through electioneering and several years playing Ingress and then Pokémon Go (I’m too old and tired for those games now) there aren’t many places in Telford that I don’t know intimately.
I’m a beta tester, frequent waze user and recently I’ve noticed that my area isn’t as good as it should be. I’ve been editing for a few weeks now (have done some mistakes sorry Ian and PJ) but I’ve given the UK requirements a much more thorough reading this time.
I mainly focus on my local area (Angus) and the Glens of Scotland. I was a census administrator for the last two census so I used waze (extensively) and love to edit maps.
If anyone needs me I’ll be hyper focusing on something over here.
Hi - I am Nick and am in Norfolk. Moved back here 2 years ago having mostly used Waze before that in London having been a member and user for about 9 years.
I have tried to edit in the past but struggled and gave up but recently with the help of Ian managed to edit some roads locally that had been wrong for a few months and that gave me the bug. So I am very much at the beginning of the journey so to speak.
I’ve just joined, sort of new to Waze but only as I’ve avoided my phone connection for SatNav but hung off my wife’s phone for years.
I’ve been a contributor on another mapping platform, Level 8 there with 30K points - thousands of contributions and a surprising number of followers. I’ll continue to contribute there for walking and cycling but for driving Waze is the way.
I’m Milton Keynes based but travel and have lived in several areas around the country. Looking forward to the approval of a few local place edits/contributions and hope to have the authority to add/edit roads in the future as Milton Keynes continues to grow.
Hi Colin, welcome to Waze Map Editing, I’m in an Oxon town a little SW of you, always happy to welcome another local editor, as local knowledge brings so much to map editing!
While I’m sure there will be many principles that you can bring over from the other platform, I’m sure it’ll come as no susprise to you that Waze has it’s own intricacies and local best practice. This being the case, can I point you towards some of the links in my signature below, which will give you good grounding in regards to getting started, as well as directing you towards our mentoring programme, should you feel this would be of use.
Either way, we’re a very welcoming bunch, so please feel free to get involved, both on here and/or over on Discord, and pop a message over to me or anyone else if you have any questions!
I have been editing since 2013, and was the AM for Scotland, Outer Islands, Isle of man and a large part of the South of England, outside of the UK I was also an AM covering Ghana & Sierra Leone.
From the username you can probably guess I was a taxi driver, in fact I owned the largest company in my area.
So, where have I been.
Prior to setting up my taxi company I was a nurse, along came the pandemic and I was asked to return to the NHS, I thought that would be for a short time, so much for thoughts… I started back as a vaccinator and then was approached by the John Radcliffe in Oxford to run the staff covid testing unit, the pandemic ended and I was asked to stay - I closed my company and I remain with the NHS.
So, within the NHS I work for Occupational Heath, looking after Health Surveillance, and since January 23 working as the system administrator for the Occ Health System. I also do bank shifts in A&E, Major Trauma and End of Life Care in our hospice.
On top of that I am also a community responder working for South Central Ambulance Service.
So, as you can imagine, time is tight, but I have missed editing - so, I AM BACK
Welcome back! Felt drawn to comment as you’re close to home for me - I’m a front line team leader for SCAS and the JR is my local ED! Who knows, you may even have given me one of my four covid jabs over the last few years
After being a user from 2017 I am thinking now having time to being a Waze editor. I have added a few businesses and also updated a few roads. I would like to work my was to being a level I can update carparks and also add pre planned road closures.
Welcome to Waze map editing! I can see, from a few edits you’ve made in the past, that you’re based in the south west - we’re always needing new editors in all areas, as local knowledge is so valuable.
To start you off, take a look at the links in my forum signature below, as these direct you towards a few really useful place to get the knowledge to hit the ground running with map editing! Myself and all other mentors/editors are really friendly, so consider joining the Discord server (also linked to below) as this is a fantastic place to ask any questions in a live chat environment.
Unfortunately, as you made some edits a few years ago, you’re out of the window to be formally added to the Waze mentoring programme, but this shouldn’t stand in the way of you messaging any mentors to ask questions along the way.
No such thing as a stupid question though, so ask away!!
I’m Mark, living in Surrey and have been a daily Waze user for several years. Recently I’ve noticed that road closures and roadworks in my area/commute have often not been marked, so I’m hoping to be able to help keep the map up to date by contributing some editing. I have made a few place edits in my local area, but am not sure how to get these approved? Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
Finally, in the past year, most of the UK Waze communication has moved from here to Discord. Please join us there and you will get much quicker replies to any questions or issues you have, Click the link at the top of the page to join the UK Discord Server.
Hi everyone, I’m Pete. I’m a 30-something year old gent who still thinks he’s 20. Hiding out in the “shire” (Gloucestershire) - I’m in the Kings town of Tetbury, just a stones throw away from Highgrove.
Married with 5 kids between us. Ages range from unborn (Due July!) all the way up to 16.
I started on Waze when I started as a “Green” for South East Coast Ambulance Service. Since then, I’ve moved out of the NHS and pursued Software Development which I really enjoy. It gives me the opportunity to not be away from home for 12-16 hours a day and see the kiddos grow up from the comfort of home. It also means I can spend half my day with the Waze Map Editor up on one of my 4 screens! (Humble brag!)
I’m still very active in the Ambulance Service but more so now in a volunteer capacity as a Community First Responder for South Western Ambulance Service. I actually use Waze to navigate as opposed to the navigation provided.
I’m currently in the mentoring program and with any luck, I’ll be a whizz at map editing in no time. It’s quite a fun passtime.
Looking forward to interacting with you all as I progress through my Waze journey!
I introduced myself in Discord but since we have a fresh new forum here at Discuss, I’ll take the opportunity to introduce myself here too.
I’m Adrian, originally from Uruguay. I have lived in Tel Aviv for 18 years, where I worked as a Waze Community Manager for 14 years
I’ve recently relocated to London and this is where I’m editing currently.
As a Community Manager, I didn’t have much time to develop my editing skills, but now with a little bit of free time (as much as you can get with two young kids ) I want to contribute to this community as a regular editor.
I’m always on the lookout of ways to contribute so please feel free to ping me for any consultations. Though I’m no editing expert (there are many of those here, and excellent ones) I might be able to help with other things I’ve learned over the years working at Waze.
