I have a UR for sutton in ashfield and the A38. Here.
Checking livemap, it also suggests a straight on at the A617/A38 junction and then splitting between staying on the A38 or going off on the A611. Here.
The reporter, a motorcyclist, is adamant that he turns left and does not go straight on.
I have just sent one last message including links to editor and his report and livemap as it doesn’t seem that whatever I say can persuade him that there, seemingly, is noting wrong with the map for that route…
Head - Wall - Bang…
I think he’s saying that coming from the EAST on A38, there’s no instruction to turn at the junction to go SOUTH on A38. I would suggest removing the turn lanes so it has simple instructions…
I’ve never had a problem here and I have been to KMH a few times. But I don’t have the habit of heading towards Mansfield when I actually want to go to Derby…!
Unless he “thinks” that Waze is directing him out of the front entrance of the hospital (which he won’t know as he has stuffed his phone into a bag!), in which case, at that junction a LEFT turn (turn left, keep left) would be appropriate…
I think that’s it: he was expecting to be approaching from the junction from the east, but Waze thought he was coming down the other road and so said “continue straight for xx minutes”. The location (which may be wrong) of his UR suggests he might not have actually set off yet either…
I’d tell him Waze is not designed for motorcyclists as stated in it’s terms of use “the Service allows car drivers to navigate to their desired address.”
Yea, I did say that. But he has apparently been happily using it for years. There is even an “icon for a motorcycle in waze”…
I resisted the urge to tell him “So you’re the one being corrupting the map data all these years… Thanks!”
Personally I don’t use Waze while on a motorbike - partly because of polluting the data (although motorcycles are such a minority that I doubt there’s much impact) but more because I’m not interested in the travel reports and I can just ride past the queues
The latest Google support pages don’t seem to mention motorcycles at all but there is this:
…so it does mention pedestrian use!?
I’d say it’s useless for that as the non-driveables you could use for walking are not connected to the rest of the map.
