Urgent - (Dangerous) Route on Wase: event with 1,500+ participants on 21/07/2026 - São José pinhais PR

Dear Waze Team,

My name is Rodrigo, and I am the IT Manager for Grupo Refriko. On July 21, 2026, we will be holding a large-scale event in São José dos Pinhais - PR, on Rua Vereador Domingos Benvenuto Moletta, with an expected attendance of over 1,500 participants, most of whom will be arriving by car using Waze for navigation.

When simulating the route in the app, we identified that the suggested primary route directs drivers through [Rua. Benjamim Claudino Barbosa - São José dos Pinhais - PR / PROBLEMATIC STRETCH], a section with [narrow road without shoulder / dangerous curves / poor maintenance]. Since this is an evening event, we advise against traveling this way.

There is a safer alternative route, with similar distance and time, via [BR 376 > AV. Volkswagen Audi > Rua antonio Singer > Estrada do Gere > Estrada Vereador Domingos Benvenuto Moletta], which is actually the route indicated by Google Maps.

Given the volume of vehicles expected in a single day, we request:

1. A review of the classification/attributes of the [Rua. Benjamim Claudino Barbosa - São José dos Pinhais - PR] stretch on the map, so that it is no longer prioritized in routing;

2. If the routing change is not possible via support, the forwarding of this request to the Waze Map Editor community responsible for the region.

Approximate coordinates of the problematic stretch: [-25.5861057, -49.2233336]

Coordinates of the lo

cation of the event: [25.6544838, -49.2168939]

Attached are screenshots of the compared routes (Waze vs. safe route).

I remain available to provide any additional information.

Welcome to the Waze volunteer editors community, Rodrigo!

@IdomarCerutti might be able to take a better look at the location!

Hello Rodrigo,

Thank you for getting in touch and for your concern for Waze users.

The app’s algorithm prioritizes, by default, the fastest route, and can also suggest up to two alternative routes. Currently, the map editor does not have features to penalize roads for characteristics such as a lack of shoulders, dangerous curves, or poor road maintenance. For this reason, unfortunately, there are few actions that editors can take in these cases.

Furthermore, technology cannot always account for the particularities of certain regions. Often, those who know the local reality can better assess which routes are safer, and not just which are the fastest. For this reason, I have forwarded your report to the local community of editors so that the situation can be analyzed from this perspective. I hope they can identify an alternative that I may have missed.

Should the conclusion remain the same, the best guidance will be to use one of the alternative routes that the app itself offers, choosing the one that the driver considers most appropriate and safe for the trip.

I’ve reached out privately to understand and resolve the issue.

Idomar Cerutti contacted me, clarified the whole situation, and the problem was resolved. I commend the Waze team for their prompt service and, especially, Idomar for his attentiveness and for reaching out.
