US-24 Downgrade (Colo Spgs)

I downgraded US-24 from Powers to I-25.

The part that was a major highway to a minor highway (Fountain Blvd):

  • Too many minor road intersections
  • Too many stop lights (about one each block)
  • Speed limit too low

https://www.waze.com/wiki/Map_Legend#Freeway
The part that was a freeway to major highway (MLK Bypass):

  • Speed limit is 45 & 55 MPH
  • Part of the bypass is only separated by jersey barriers and a chain linked fence.

I’m open to all criticism on this decision (even a smack-down if this was discussed previously.)

PLEASE do not down grade roads. There is a LOT of discussion regarding classification and matching it to the Federal Classification vs Waze Classification. So again, please do not down grade any classification.

Should I go and fix them?

I would say yes… Can you please provide a permalink. Thanks!

I added it to the original post:

US-24 and E Fountain Blvd. On the east is S Powers and on the west is I-25

CDOT makes this relatively easy for us.
The various County Assessor’s have parcel maps that are usually up-to-date on a weekly basis for dealing with new construction that isn’t visible on aerials as well as house numbers.

So any road on here: http://dtdapps.coloradodot.info/Otis/Flex/MapView should at least be a major highway?

You’ll need to turn on Functional Class and Major Roads under base layers, then follow the mapping in the other thread.

I did edit one thing in that other post, from just looking at what’s classed Major Collector and where those are and what they’re used for, I decided they map better to Minor Highway than Primary. They’d get Typed that way anyhow from the US/SR = Major/max(NFC,Minor) rule.

It’s not that hard to translate either. Tan is Freeway if fully limited or Major, Red and US Highways are Major, Green and Purple are Minor unless it’s a US Highway (Major), Yellow is Primary unless it’s a State Highway (Minor) which is like 99% of them, Major Road is Primary.

All Major Highway now.
