Hi GeSpot. I just got editing capabilities a few days ago and live in Baldwin County. Judging by the map around here no one else is doing anything to fix all the missing roads and mistakes. It’s been fun making the map look right!
I’m a new AM for Tuscaloosa and the surrounding areas. I have a lot of work ahead of me due to some bad edits in the past and bad basemap info that never got scrubbed, new subdivisions, etc.
Howdy dctdye, it’s always nice to meet a new AM around here. ![]()

Just applied for the area(s) just south of Birmingham (Shelby County area). I actually get down to Baldwin County fairly regularly especially the areas around Gulf Shores and Fairhope. See y’all around the map.

Hi, I drove through Montgomery this summer a couple times and when I keep going back to look I have noticed that there were a couple of places with the dreaded “red road” that I fixed. But, recently, I saw that Montgomery Mall wasn’t mapped and wanted to ask if they are still continuing re-construction/re-furbishment that “started” in Feb 2013?

JTC, welcome to the land of Waze. Now that Waze has been around about 4 years, you’ll find many high value roads are locked and not available for editing. As such, please avoid frustration trying to edit these and focus on residential streets which do not get the appropriate amount of attention. This is how you could be most helpful as a new editor.
Be Well,

Welcome, JTC. Shelby County should keep ya busy for a while, it’s always growing! Always nice to meet a new editor in the state.

Welcome to the forum, tenpin. That’s some pretty land out where you live. I used to take county road 13 from Helena through Green Pond when I was going to Tuscaloosa. Very scenic.

Sorry for being MIA as of late. I started law school back in August. Between that, working full time, and still being daddy and husband the map editing time has crashed. I do hope that the higher ups have gotten to work on the reworked U.S. Hwy 280 from Mountain Brook to Double Oak Mountain though. That stretch is locked, but has had huge changes in turns allowed and more importantly turns that are no longer allowed. There have been some very bad wrecks while everyone is adjusting to it.

With all that, it’s a wonder you have time to think at all! Sounds like 280 will need the attention of someone who drives it and knows all the changes. I’m glad I never had to use it for commuting, but I spent enough time in traffic there that I don’t miss it at all these days. During the summer, highway 59 here going to Gulf Shores can be just as bad, believe it or not. Like 280 at rush hour, 59 during the peak tourist season is an “avoid at all costs” type of road.
Look out for the Baldwin area. I get down there from time to time. I’ll be around Fairhope come Thanksgiving. First one at the Fairhope Brewing Co. is on me. If your not the drinking type, the first two are on me. ![]()
I have lived in Auburn for nearly 20 years and would welcome the ability to fix some map issues outside the limitations imposed on Level-1 editors. I’ve been using Waze for more than 2 years and editing a good bit already during that time. I can’t for the life of me find out how to “apply” for a higher editing status, or if that’s just imposed at some point based on my editing activity.

Hi. Levels exist for a reason. It is an experience indicator, but not the only one. Another is being able to search the wikis for the information you need to become a good editor so others aren’t having to come in behind you and clean up. This is prerequisite to becoming an Area Manager.

How do I become a map editor? I drive around 500 miles a week during the winter months and up to 1,100 miles all other months. I feel like i could be beneficial to the rest of our app users.
Thank you in advance,
Bill Corbett

Welcome!
For starters, you can edit within 4 miles of anyplace you drive within a couple days (normally). Recommend you practice first: https://www.waze.com/wiki/Map_Editing_(new_Editor)#Play_Mode
Editing mature roads for the sake of editing isn’t a favored practice, and critical infrastructure is locked down (read: freeways, interstates, ramps), but there are plenty of untouched residential streets in urban and rural areas in need of attention.

Four miles? Don’t you mean one mile?

When you log in to the editor, what does it say on the left-hand side of your screen? It MAY not be the same for everyone. :?:
