York Rd Routing

Ok, I need a hand with this one. I’ve been working on this issue for over a year and I simply cannot figure out what the issue it. I drive this York Rd NB from Cockeysville to Hereford several times a week. Waze has an aversion to routing me on York Rd NB past Belfast Rd. I have tried to figure out where the penalty is coming from but I haven’t been able to figure it out and it seems that no amount of teaching is going to convince it otherwise. Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully I can learn something here.
Play with it by moving the origin north up York Rd and watch what happens to the routing when you get past Belfast Rd.

Interesting. Waze does have a preference for routing over the freeway rather than the minor highway. Waze also has a preference for routing over a route with fewer segments than a route with more segments. So here all else being equal waze is going to prefer going up I-83. The question becomes how much this preference will overcome York Rd actually being faster than I-83. Although, it looks to me like waze does think that taking Belfast over to I-83 is usually the faster route.

There are times that Waze will route me from York Rd onto Belfast then a right on Ensor Mill Rd and back onto York Rd North (when 83 is backed up) just to avoid that section of York Rd between Belfast and Ensor Mill. Something is clearly wrong here, but I can’t figure it out. It works just fine southbound though. I wish we had more visibility into the penalties associated with segments.

I’m not able to reproduce this. Waze is routing me straight up York Rd. So I don’t know what the penalties might be.
