Carnaval de Binche
The most famous carnival in Belgium, Carnaval de Binche attracts thousands of visitors annually. Known for its rich heritage, dating back to the 14th century, it’s been proclaimed a “Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO. On Mardi Gras, more than 1000 Gilles gather in the city center with brooms to wards off evil spirits, as they dance to the sound of drums. Then, marching through the streets, they throw oranges at the public for good luck. The Waze community has updated the map with significant road closures and will continue to add hazards as they unfold in real-time.
