Long routes, did something change in the last 6 months?

Templeton, MA to Readsboro, VT Livemap route.

The interesting this about this route, is there's 5.23 miles of Primary Street in nine segments nearly in the middle of the route. There's also a valid alternative that uses Minor instead, but it's nearly twice as long at 11.7 miles with 48 segments.

Maybe something has been adjusted since January, and Primary is allowed to run a bit longer, unfortunately I don't have a pre-January route handy that contraindicates.

I've noticed a significant improvement in route quality starting about 3 weeks ago. Common routes that used to give me a what-were-they-thinking moment, no longer send me ways that were longer and slower. My guess is there was a recent algorithm improvement or an important bug fix.
