Exd vs Ext

Postby BlaiseBFaint » Wed Mar 25, 2015 3:01 pm

Reidsville NC has streets known as extensions: Vance St Extension, Turner Drive Extension, Gilmer St Extension. I expect extension to be abbreviated, "Ext." Why do these appear as "Exd" in Waze?

This sounds like bad naming. According to this it should indeed be "Ext" (note, no period).

The "Exd" likely came from the basemap import - it's like that in CT too.

AndyPoms,
Does that mean we should feel free to correct spellings on the map from Exd to Ext?

Yes - according to Abbreviations & acronyms (which JustinS83 linked to above), we should be using Ext.

I've been changing them as I come across them for years - especially since "Exd" didn't used to say "Extension" in TTS (I don't know if it does now or not).
