Yes, probably. I did not add "Tce" to the Wiki list as "Kate" does not know how to digest it. Not yet. :)
I would also add "Lwr" and "Upr" as they are common on street signs and are part of long street names.

The final Irish list would be the UK list with the exception of:
[Edit]listed here
=>Do you all agree with that final list? David?

For those who wonder what "Jane" (new US voice) can do, here is the looong new US list!

Taking David's last suggestion into account, the final list of abbreviations for Ireland would be the UK list with the exception of:
  • Boulevard: Blvd (removed)
  • Broadway: Bdwy (removed)
  • Circus: Cir (removed)
  • Crescent: Cres (replacing "Cr")
  • East: E (added)
  • Garden: Gdn (removed)
  • Gardens: Gdns (removed)
  • Green: Gn (removed)
  • Grove: Gr (removed)
  • Lower: Lwr (added) [TTS updated on 13/09/15]
  • Mount: Mt (removed)
  • North: N (added) [TTS update required]
  • Ridge: Rdg (removed)
  • South: S (added)
  • Terrace: Tce (replacing "Ter") [TTS updated on 13/09/15]
  • Upper: Upr (added) [TTS updated on 13/09/15]
  • Valley: Val (removed)
  • West: W (added)
The Wiki list of abbreviations (Ireland) has been updated accordingly.

I would also suggest that giving a 2-week-timeframe for this would be fair so that it can be implemented soon. Agreed?
The scoreboard in Waze client might be a good list of (active) Wazers added to your list of editors.

davidg666 wrote:Do you mean that we should give the editors we contact two weeks to respond (in case anybody wants to dissent or propose any changes) before we proclaim the new list of abbreviations as the way forward? I definitely agree with this.
Yes, as you mentioned before, not all editors come here, so it would give them an opportunity to participate or to discover this forum.
davidg666 wrote:we have a means of getting a list of all editors. I reckon everybody who's edited at least once since the start of this year and has edited 100 or more segments in their lifetime would be a good starting point. I'll start getting that list together.
Well, if you can get that list of editors easily, then there's no need to dig into the scoreboard (I thought it would be complicated that's why I suggested the scoreboard...)

Does anybody know how long it would take Waze HQ to teach the new abbreviations/words (Lwr, N, Upr, Tce) to Kate? Tim?

Ready here. ;)
Interesting stats.
Timbones wrote:Let me know if there are any abbreviations that needs to be added or removed from this list.
Tim, if the Wiki list of abbreviations looks good to you too, would you mind to update Incorrectly named roads by city?
Have you found a way to include the "No city" street name roads?
Besides, I think "Back to list of cities" at the bottom of the page is wrongly linked. Well, not that important though.

Sorry, I meant "No city" segments.
Tim, does Kate pronounce "Gdn" without the "S" for UK Wazers?
Regarding the abbreviations (Lwr, Upr, Tce) added today to Kate, are they correctly pronounced in UK too?
Does it apply to Thomas too?

This post and the Wiki list have been updated accordingly.
Sorry Tim, could you update your code to include "Cir" and "Mt" in the list of incorrect road names?
I have noticed that "something Ter something" is not listed.
I think the list of incorrect road names with "No city" is at least 3 times longer.

davidg666 wrote:Stan, would you mind updating the wiki on the 17th to take out the warning that the abbreviations list is under discussion?
The Wiki Ireland will be updated accordingly. ;)

I suggest that we also add the nomenclature below in the Wiki for a street name:

[Rnum [Rcard]] [[Spref] Sname Sabbr [Sxtn]]

Rnum: Road number (M50, R123, L1234...)
Rcard: Road cardinal for some divided 2-way roads (N, E, S, W)
Spref: Road/Street name prefix (Lwr, Upr, Great, Middle, Little)
Sname: Road/Street name
Sabbr: Abbreviation of the road/street name suffix when it matches the abbreviation table
Sxtn: Road/Street name extension (Lwr, Upr, Great, Middle, Little, Extension, N, E, S, W)

The position of Spref/Sxtn matches the one in road/street signs.

Here are some examples:
R114 Camden St Lwr
N92 S Park West Ave
R131 East Link Rd
R138 St. Stephen's Green E (Green is not in the Abbreviation table)
R132 Parnell Sq E

How does it sound?

The script WME Validator Localization for Ireland has been updated to match the new list of abbreviations and the nomenclature above.

UK/US editors, you can find the difference between abbreviations used in Ireland and the ones in UK/US here (Green for Ireland, beige for UK)

Can we also state on the 3 principles regarding Parking lot places here?
We also need to decide about Ramps!
;)

Just retested "Ave N", "Ln N", "St N", "Rd N".
I can confirm that the issue with suffix "N" has been fixed by Waze (Thanks Tim for the info)
Kate and Thomas pronounce "North" from now now on, no more "ehnn".
Don't forget to clear your cache by searching for "cc@tts" ;)
Wiki Ireland has been updated accordingly.
