Progress for this week:

Motorways: 632/676 - 93.5%
Major highways/N- roads: 7062/9778 - 72.2%
Minor highways/R- roads: 7801/28148 - 27.7%
Primary streets: 2104/15173 - 13.9%
Streets: 17583/169841 - 10.4%

The good news is that we've hit our target for motorways and major highways (80% and 70%) but we're just at 27.7% for minor highways. Once we get them above 70% we can ask Waze to turn on speed limits for Ireland, although obviously the more limits we have set, the more useful the feature will be.

For motorways, we just need the M18 in Clare (GSV images are too old there) and the M20 south of Limerick. For N- roads, we have a large part of the middle of the country done, but we need all of Donegal, a lot of Limerick and Kerry, and about half of Cork done...

Keep up the good work!

Interesting; I'll check next time I'm out. It wasn't there last weekend anyway.

We have enough motorway and N-road segments with limits set, but we're still just on 31.9% of R-roads, so keep setting the limits...

As many have noted so far, they seem to have to turned on speed limits here, even though we haven't reached the required percentages for minor highways. Our motorways and major highways are looking good though.

Here's the statistics today:

Motorways: 634/678 - 93.5%
Ramps: 748/1498 - 49.9%
Major highways (N- roads): 8663/10015 - 86.5%
Minor highways (R- roads): 10007/28477 - 35.1%
Primary street: 3223/15375 - 21.0%
Streets: 46369/170837 - 27.1%

I recommend that we keep plugging away at setting limits on R- roads, but set limits on lesser roads as we come across them. I have noticed URs starting to come in too for places where we haven't got the limits quite right (there's a section of the N52, for example, where I set the limits based on the signs visible on street view, but the road has been upgraded since, so I had set the wrong limits).

One thing I meant to mention in my last post is 30km/h speed limits: some housing estates have 30km/h limits, and many other places have them too.

The centre of Dublin is mostly 30km/h, but this area has shrunk since it was first introduced, so what's in GSV may not be correct. There are also plans to enlarge this area (maybe around the end of the year), so we need to keep up with this...

Now that speed limits are live, I'm sure you've all noticed the URs about missing or incorrect speed limits showing up.

A lot of them are in areas where we haven't actually set the limits yet, so these should slow down when we cover these areas - and we can clear the URs as we go around setting the limits.

a somewhat tardy update:

segments with limits set/total segments: percentage:

Motorways: 639/683: 93.6%
N-roads: 8866/10054: 88.2%
R-roads: 15517/29066: 53.4%
Primary streets: 5244/15583: 33.7%
Streets: 60309/171175: 35.2%

Thanks to everybody who's contributed so far; our motorways and N-roads are looking pretty good, and even though speed limit have now been turned on, there are still plenty of lesser roads with speed limits yet to be set. I'll cover each road type in another post, but here's the heat map for all road types:

and for motorways:

Motorways: 639/683: 93.6%

Almost all motorways have speed limits set, except for the M18 through Clare and the M20 south of Limerick. The M18 needs somebody with local knowledge (or a visitor), because the Street View images were made either while it was still under construction or while it was being redesignated from a dual carriageway with 100km/h limits to a motorway with 120km/h limits. I imagine most of it is now 120km/h, but the start and end (especially approaching Gort) probably aren't.

N-roads:

N-roads: 8866/10054: 88.2%

Plenty of N-roads have limits set, with the exception of a good chunk of the N4 between Mullingar and Sligo, a couple of bits around Cork, plenty in Limerick county and north Kerry and a few around border areas.

R-roads:

R-roads: 15517/29066: 53.4%

About half way there with R-roads, with plenty done around Dublin and Cork and a lot of the midlands, but most of Munster, south and north Leinster and border areas to go:
