Reports from users are also helpful pointers. :)
Thanks Des. Yeah, I use SV a lot for setting speed limits, most especially in out-of-the-way areas where I know I'm unlikely to be any time soon and/or where we don't have many active editors. Even though some of the images are from 2009, it's a lot better to have a reasonable approximation of the speed limit than nothing at all.

Especially in rural areas, the limits seem to follow a fairly predictable pattern: for R- roads, the default limit is 80km/h and on the approach to a small village it drops to 50 around where the village name sign is. For larger places like towns, there's often a 60km/h stretch first, but then the limit drops to 50 in the middle of the town.

There are a few places with 30km/h limits in parts - such as Slane in Co. Meath. These seem to be fairly rare though.

In other news: we're up above 60% of R-road segments with speed limits set. The southern third of the country and border areas still need the most work.

OK, we're making (slow) progress. Today, our stats are:

Motorways: 639/683 - 93.6%
N-roads: 9120/10094 - 90.4%
Primary streets: 6483/15741 - 41.2%
R-roads: 19706/29613 - 66.5%
Streets: 70034/171725 - 40.8%

For motorways, we just need the M18 and M20 around Limerick. For N-roads, we need most of the N4 between Mullingar and Sligo, most N-roads southeast of Limerick city, and many N-roads in border areas.

We need to make most progress on R-roads - see the image below. The middle of the country is in good shape, but the bottom third and top third of the country need a lot of work, as does Galway, Limerick, Waterford and most of the edges of Dublin.

a bit of an update:

Motorways: 93.6% - 640/684
N-roads: 91.6% - 9279/10127
Primary streets: 49.9% - 7879/15785
R-roads: 80.1% - 24394/30436
Streets: 47.1% - 81080/172169

Looks like our motorways haven't moved much, although 93.6% is pretty good. We still need somebody to look at the M20 south of Limerick and the M18 in Clare. The street view images for these are too out of date to be much use, so an in-person visit is needed.

For N-roads, much of the N4, the roads west of Limerick and those in border areas need to be done.

R-roads are much improved, with most of Cork county, the western parts of Galway, most of Mayo, Sligo and Donegal, much of the border areas and parts of Dublin still needing attention. See the images to follow in the next posts...

YanisKyr wrote:Has anyone tried reporting new/incorrect speed limits through Waze's native function?

I've tried it a good few times during the last couple of weeks, naturally expecting to see them on the WME but they're nowhere to be found..
Not recently, but I do remember when speed limits were first enabled, speed limit URs were showing up in great numbers in the editor.

I think they disabled showing these URs in the editor (presumably because they were overwhelming editors) but I don't recall any recent discussion about them in the forums.
