Carrickmacross speed limits

Post by davidg666
Anybody familiar with Carrickmacross and the R178 west of Carrickmacross?

I've been updating the R-road speed limits in Carrickmacross, and a couple of bits are hard to work out from Street View:

1. This roundabout has 50km/h signs on one approach and 60km/h on the others, so it's a big ambiguous. The link roads/ramps to/from the N2 are also unclear.

2. One end of the R180 Ballybay Rd is probably 60km/h and the other is probably 50km/h, but I couldn't find any signs along it.

3. This section of the R178 is a bit wiggly and has a 60km/h limit in the middle, and seemed to have ongoing road works in 2009 (when the SV images were made) - so the 60km/h limit might not apply any more. However, the GPS tracks still match the satellite view of the road, so I'm not sure what - if anything - has changed. Maybe it's been widened, and the 60km/h limit removed - or maybe they were just going to resurface it in 2009.

So for all three of these: do we have any editors living near Carrickmacross, or anybody who passes nearby regularly who could do a little field trip?

thanks!

I'll be travelling that route on a regular basis in the coming weeks and will check it out.

Marvellous; thanks Arthur!

We have a similar problem around Derrybeg/Dunbeg/Gweedore. Do you ever get up that way? I think this area can be sorted out using Street View though - I just need to be a bit more patient :) (and while I'm at it, Doolin in Co. Clare has no visible speed limit signs on Street View, although I go there about once a year, so I'll take a look myself if somebody else doesn't get there first).

I'll post an update to the speed limits thread in the next few days - I've almost finished setting speed limits for the R- roads. There's a bit Dublin and Limerick to go, and most of Cork county - that's about it! I look forward to returning to my normal editing...
