Editing with Waze Tools

Post by arthurohara
I've recently driven this area on multiple occasions - https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lo ... =284676214

L1362 is not a primary route. It stands out as can also be determined by comparison with other L roads in this area, which should be detected when manually updating.

I notice many road segments throughout the country that are marked as updated in recent enough times, yet they are still not finalised and require further manual updating to ensure they are correct. I'm wondering is use being made of a specific Waze tool to conduct updates automatically without actually conducting an update.

I also see updating of segments throughout most of the country that I done to full completion myself that did not require a further update, yet they were.

This is another segment which was updated recently enough but failed to correct an obvious error...https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lo ... t=10240246

I will correct it tonight. There is no left turn off Church Street onto R245 Main Street.

I've been moving through the country fairly quickly updating speed limits on N- and R- roads. I've been doing some cleaning up as I go, but because I'm keen to get the speed limits set, I can't possibly fix everything wrong that I pass on the way. Although I do correct some things in passing, I'm sure I miss a lot more! I also keep a list of places to return to later, which I hope to get to once the speed limits are finished.

I do use some tools (such as Tim's excellent Colour Highlighter editor extension) to highlight some of the more common things that are worth correcting, which would account for some of the changed segments that might still need further work. For example, I change segment elevations to zero (except where two segments cross) because segments with non-zero elevations appear differently on Live Map than other segments. I also remove unnecessary geometry nodes from segments, which again might appear unnecessary after the fact.

As for primary routes: I typically don't change these in passing, although if I see a segments marked as a primary route when it clearly isn't (such as having grass growing down the middle and only being one car wide :) ) then I sometimes change it. Opinions seem to have varied a lot between editors when these segments were first created, and some parts of the country have more segments marked as "primary street" than others. It probably doesn't help that there's no clear rule for choosing between "street" and "primary street".

Incidentally, I came across quite a few segments recently that were recently set to "minor highway" that were neither R- roads nor should have had the type "minor highway". I think I've set most of these back, but I may have missed a few.

As always, any advice or suggestions on my editing style or decisions are more than welcome. When the speed limit project is finished, I hope to return to more normal editing!
