toll road progress

Post by
Now that we can mark roads as toll roads in the map editor, maybe we should collaborate to make sure that we have all the toll roads in Ireland marked properly. Let's make a list of the roads and which ones are and aren't marked.

In Dublin, I already marked the toll section of the M50, the East Link bridge and the port tunnel. I notice somebody else (@arthurohara?) has marked the first tolled section of the M3 (near Dunboyne) but not (I think) the second section (near Kells). Off the top of my head, here are all the toll roads/bridges(/ferries) I can think of; I expect there are plenty more:
  • (done) Dublin: M50
  • (done) Dublin: port tunnel
  • (done) Dublin: East Link bridge
  • (done) Meath: M3 near Dunboyne
  • Meath: M3 near Kells
  • (done) Kildare: M4 near Kilcock
  • Galway: M6 near Ballinsloe
  • (done) Cork: M8 near Fermoy
  • Waterford/Wexford: Passage East ferry
  • Kerry: Valentia Island ferry
So other editors: please add to this list (for tolled toads/bridges/ferries I've omitted) and, if it's in your editable area, edit it (for roads you've correctly marked as tolled.

Was driving up to Dunleer and back today from Dublin. Didn't see any notification or an Icon for Toll bridge behind Drogheda. Is it added?

Right, so it is (will work when they'll enable it) working only as Avoidance? We will not see Toll area marked on The map if you browse it?

Thanks for heads up.

Just tried... Give me an error. Probably because Road is closed.
P.S. Tried drawing Landmark without touching Road (M50) too, same Saving Error: An Error ocured while saving...

Nah... Doesn't matter.. Someone eventually will add it... Should

Hi David,
I did not complete M3 toll road segment near Kells. Just M4 Kilcock and M3 near Dunboyne.
Cheers,
Arthur.

The National Roads Authority (NRA) have a National Toll Plaza Directory in PDF: http://www.nra.ie/GeneralTollingInforma ... 913,en.pdf An interesting document. It should be of some help.

I've just tagged the M6 Galway to Ballinasloe road segment toll. and the M3 between Kells and Navan.

In summary I have tagged the following Toll Roads:-

1. M4 Kilcock
2. M6 Ballinasloe - Galway
3. M3 Dunboyne
4. M3 Navan - Kells

BTW there is a Ghost Road Segment on this section of the M3 N which I've just asked Waze Support to delete. I'm presently siting the toll plaza location.

Another NRA link of interest to Waze is the National Roads Scheme Activity: http://www.nra.ie/mapping/

Safe driving. No cheating.

Hi Folks,

i couldn't see it marked at drogheda just now, nor could i see any toll road boxes ticked for the motorway roads in the area.
do you have editor privileges for the M1 there david?
i have PM'ed the editors who seem to have edited Tarbert, Valentia and Passage East recently. Hopefully they can be done soon

No, my editing privileges don't extend that far - otherwise I would've fixed that up by now. I'd say Arthur O'Hara (@arthurohara) does, however.

Working on placing the Tool Plaza and Tool Booth on M1 N/S near Drogheda. Pesky ghost road segments on both north and south carriageways. Have asked Waze Support to delete them. Will complete once support deactivates the ghost segments.

Before Ireland activates the Toll Road Avoidance Feature , could I respectfully suggest that it is essential editors double-check that alternative short routes are available and navigable in the respective areas where toll roads are located in order to avoid tolls efficiently by the shortest appropriate route, bearing in mind the cost of fuel etc. [http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/sma ... 45581.html]

I'm tediously going through the segments I created to ensure that all appropriate peripheral road segments connected to toll roads exist, are fluent and navigable. Need to be careful we don't send a juggernaut down a cul-de-sac or worse still a dirt road or a road incapable of taking substantial traffic size and volume. Respectfully suggest to fellow editors that this should be prioritised before activation of the Toll Avoidance feature.

Sincerely,

Arthur.

In addition to my previous post of this date relative to toll road progress in Ireland I will happily and studiously conduct in-depth editing and route re-checking to ensure there is appropriate working road routing avoiding the following toll roads:-

M1 Route - M1 from Junctions 7 to 18
M3 Route - Between Dunboyne and Kells
M4 Route - Kilcock to Kinnegad
M6 Route - M6 from Junctions 14 to 19

I will also gladly help out on other routes, if needs be.

Sincerely,

Arthur.
