Managed to get relevant segment of the R400 unlocked, plus a few other R road segments in that area. Elements R401 and R402 I did not succeed with. I will give it a try again.

I never lock road segments but I think the system does automatically from time to time - I don't know why!

I've left the edits for Paul (peemay) to finish out.

I've been tinkering away around Portarlington and went to map one of the connecting roads from the R400 near the Cushina area to Walsh Island but I find that the segment from the Bracknagh road up towards Rhode is locked which makes connecting to it problematic.

You might like to post a permalink here of the locked segment in question so that either the person who locked the segment or somebody who has AM rights in the area can unlock it.

I agree that roads where connecting roads haven't yet been mapped shouldn't be locked, except in the case of major roads (motorways and so on) where it is believed by the mapper that the road is largely correct. At least motorways have very few junctions and the interchanges for them (assuming they're mapped) can be left unlocked for attaching smaller roads in the area.

What I often do when I want to attach a road to a locked segment is just leave it near but not touching the locked segment so that I can either attach it later if/when the segment becomes unlocked, or so that somebody who does have rights to override the lock can attach it themselves - although of course this isn't guaranteed to happen.

Unfortunately they've changed the way permissions work in the last couple of days so that now area managers can't override locks in their managed areas if the lock was placed by an editor with a higher rank than them. Lots of people seem to be unhappy about this and I'm hoping this change gets reversed.

If you don't get a response here on the forum shortly, then you can either contact the last person who edited the segment (llayden) to unlock it, or post an unlock request in the unlock request forum to get somebody else to unlock it.

I would unlock it myself but it's outside my AM area - and it's also locked by a level 6 editor, so with the recent permission changes, an AM couldn't unlock it anyway.
