How to repair broken wiki images URL

Hello all forum users,

Staff recently announced that the old wiki (wiki.waze.com) would be taken offline.

The problem
As a result of this, many forum images and signatures do not display correctly anymore. This affects all communities and forum members (even staff) who used signatures with image URLs hosted in the old wiki.

Examples:


The solution
Don't worry, the images were transferred in the new wiki (Wazeopedia). You only need to change part of the image URL you had setup before. After you do that, it will display correctly again.

When you update your image URL between the tags
delete "https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/images/" and
replace it with "https://storage.googleapis.com/wazeopedia-files/"
You should leave the end of the URL exactly the same.

Examples:
OLD URL FOR CANADA AND USA FLAGS

NEW URL FOR CANADA AND USA FLAGS

Yes, replacing

with

fixes the most current/widespread issues.

Some people may never realize their own signature is broken, because the image is stored in their computer's browser cache and still displays properly on their machine.
So they think everyone still see it also, like they do. When in reality it's not the case and needs to be edited.

Your broken signature image URL is:

https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/images/d/de/Editor_Nivel_N6_New.gif
And needs to be changed to:

That is possible.
I've increased the limit so that it shouldn't impact anyone who was already at the maximum.
Using image editing softwares like Gimp or paint.NET to regroup multiple image links into 1 image is also a good advice.

EDIT: Actually while the limit can be changed and that it saves properly when I increase it, for some reason the forum setting keeps reverting back to the previous limit. I'm not sure why it does.
I suppose that I could try to help individuals facing issues with this on a case by case basis, it might be possible to force more characters for a signature using the admin panel instead of the basic user settings UI.

Not sure if they could do it for everyone's personal forum signatures. Until they eventually do something (AFAIK not planned) at least we can fix those issues now already with a simple edit.

Good example to follow in order to minimize the breakdown of signatures.

maybe waze could do a fix for it.. a process changing old url roots to the new ones... just thinking.. :roll:
