Waze featured in KGW (Portland, OR) TV news segment

Post by AlanOfTheBerg
Here's it is, folks. Me and My Waze. I was a little disappointed with the overall content of the segment, but I guess I can't complain too much.

Available in HD, too.

Observations: note the missing 'State Rte 14' shield in Washington at the end of the clip. Even more notable is the missing I-5 shield right in the middle of the screen. I told you guys that the no-space thing drops the shields. :x

Very cool. It's great that you did 'some map updates for construction and road closures;)'.

Did you coordinate with the local station or did Waze arrange this?
Yes, the night before.

Yeah, they didn't really grasp that this is just a small part of what map editing encompasses, but the segment wasn't so much about editing.

Waze arranged it from Palo Alto. I'm not sure who that "Waze representative" is, whether he is from Portland or if that was footage provided by a California station previously recorded.

Excellent. Glad to see Waze getting some media coverage and great that Waze reached out to the community to focus an actual Wazer.

That was good. It sucks the voice command didn't work. I haven't attempted to do much of that yet, as I just got the upgrade yesterday.

I believe the spokesman scene was shot in Palo Alto by the City Hall on the next block from Waze HQ.

Too bad you couldn't get them to show the editor, and you could've delivered a lecture on proper map editing technique!

So did you set this up between Waze and your local TV station, or did Waze set it up and get you involved?
