I do it mainly because I like helping out and adding to the collective map, so that others might benefit from a map more updated then most other GPS providers actually supply. I dont work in IT but would like to, but for the time being my present jobs keeps my bills paid so that is all well and good.

At the same time it gives me plenty of time on the road so I get to explore a big part of my country and map out "new" roads and get them added to the map so that it slowly and surely improves, considering we had no basemap to start with AT ALL.

Well, I chose Waze as the best navigation app for me with all the great additional functionality regarding traffic. To be able to use it to my (several) usual destinations I want to have the map as good as possible. And it's a great satisfaction if you change the map a lot, see the results in the app within days and know that many other users are more happy from the work you do.

I am new to Waze, but I want to make sure my neighborhood is correctly mapped. Plus there are changes happening and I'd like other Wazers to know about them like the Dunkin Donut shop that just opened up on the corner near here.

I edit because I use Waze to outsmart traffic ( ) in Guatemala City, and before I found this app I used to try out different routes (if sometimes convoluted) to minimize the time I spend driving. Now I have a tool that not only helps me measure the times and distances that those routes take, but it has also helped me find new ones!

I also work in logistics, so I use GPS to track vehicles and all that. I don't use Waze for work, but my job has turned me into a map geek. :ugeek:

It's because I edit too much stuff. I edit Wikipedia and Foursquare so Waze is a no-brainer, right?

Because I like the idea of community working on content like that, some of it makes really sense.
However, when I encounter moments like this: I like to scream and give up.

Because as much as I love driving (no sarcasm intended), and challenge (likewise) - sending me over this road every day is not fun (especially in winter time):

In terms of personality typing, I'm an Idealist (NF) rather than a Rational (NT). So although I too am a software engineer by profession, I'm less motivated by the technology per se, and more so by a sense that this is a worthwhile project in human terms. I contribute to Waze because I like the concept of crowdsourcing, and collaborative efforts to make systems work.
