Thanks list

Not sure about this new system of "thanking" a post. It seems as this would create a horse race of sorts and only the more popular posters would receive credit. This could discourage others from participating at all.

Just my 2 cents...

Are you running the Forum Cleaner script (Timbones)? I can't see the thumbs up at work, but I can at home and that's the only difference (although disabling the script doesn't seem to help either).
I am running Tim's script and can see the icon no problem.

Is it a www vs world issue? I always view the forum on www

+1. they should add a "quick reply" feature and remove the thumbs-up thing.

the thumbs-up feature looks more like a fb-like bootleg thing than a thanks-list. A real thanks-list feature should be moderated by community managers (or country CMs, moderators, etc). I mean, anyone may request help to repair something which will take 1 hour to be fixed and whoever fixes it gets a "thanks" point from a moderator.

In my opinion, any feature which enables you to avoid reloading the page, would be great. For example:

- Quick-edit feature with ajax.
- some "last topic titles"/"new posts" list on the main page, so you dont go to main page and then click "new posts" and then click the thread.

Quick reply would be most appreciated.

I admin a phpbb forum and I was happy to see the thanks feature implemented. It works better as a rep system than sheer amount of posts. Some might take it as a thank-you race but IMHO the system encourages good posting.

Now let's wait for that mobile skin and cool emoticons. :p

It might also eliminate a lot of "+1"/"me too" posts.

I'm not sure what kind of credit a "me too" post deserves in the first place. If you have a reputation for posting "+1" everywhere, having 1,000 posts in your stats doesn't mean much to anyone.

I agree with you 100% but at a glance how would one know the quality of posts made by an individual?
It takes time to rack up 1,000 posts, even if they're mostly "me too"s. One couldn't tell by a glance at the number, but the people whose opinion matters most (i.e., the others most active on the forum) would already know; Thus, "reputation".

Better to give 500 "thumbs up" and have 500 substantial forum posts, than have 1,000 posts and the reputation that half your posts (maybe more?) don't add much to the conversation.
