Another day, another takeover rumor. Who cares who owns what? If it stays as a 'free' navigation application and does what you want, use it.

Such big threats. "I will quit being your free customer if you do this." Funny.

Without extensive house number and POI data the map is useless since you can't route anywhere unless you choose a destination by press and hold. Waze doesn't work without the 3rd party integration. Facebook would be making a HUGE mistake paying this kind of money for something that is incomplete and where lots of the work is being done by volunteers.

If Waze is serious about selling and monetizing one day they are going to have to build up more data to have a complete solution on their own. But of course many of these acquisitions occur anyway without the companies that are doing the acquiring actually knowing what they are buying.

I want at minumum .25 cents for each edit I've contributed to your possibly acquired navigation program. So far that's $92,550. If you request that I continue to spend my personal time improving your product my rate will continue to be .25 cents per edit and also an additional $15 per hour. Thank you.
(If waze stays waze I will continue for free on my own enjoyment and desire to help humanity)
Will join you in that request :)
But I`ll do it in €-cent ...

Nevertheless, although I have a FB account it is not linked to Waze (and definitly will not be). If waze sells to FB I`m probably out of here too.

Fuel to the flame..now it's on Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/05/ ... 7D20130509. It cites the same source though. Just that reuters doesn't usually deal in rumors.. hmm

Part of this rumored offer is to allow Waze to "operate independently" until 2016. This was a sticking point for the Facebook deal and was the supposed deal-breaker.
Hopefully those 3 years and a billion dollars will mean some added staffing to make some wicked improvements to the app and WME!

I would leave too. On the other hand I'd be fine with a subscription fee. I like the fact it's not attached to my Facebook.

First off, my join date say May 13, 2013. I started using Waze last summer in Northern Virginia. My handle is hgw2es. I have 32,477 points and am ranked 5,886. I love waze but don't constantly use it as I'm still in school and never drive far here. Anyways, I wanted to say that so I don't appear to be brand new.

I personally think Waze should not buy Facebook. I urge them not too. I love Waze and keep the two disassociated. I suggest Waze do something different. I suggest offering a paid option for those who can afford it. I'd pay $1 a month to keep this off of Facebook in a heart beat. However I think new users should get to try this wonderful app and contribute still. If this is impossible I understand.

Tl dr;I will be leaving the app if acquired by Facebook. This app is great and I don't want Facebook to track where I am. I'd pay to stay. Who wants to join me?

I am against FB's open policy been a social network so going to reduce my involvement until this is resolved. FB is still looking to commercialise always so its getting free data from us all. Quite sad.

Maybe not large quantities - but then most people won't speak up either way. What it does show is the majority of people who want to express an opinion about this are against it.

Whatever we say isn't going to change a thing. If this happens, then Facebook already know that opinions about them are sharply polarised. They know they'll lose some users & editors - and that they'll probably gain some from the massive Facebook user base.

My problem with Facebook is that, time and again, they suck up user data (which is freely given to them!) and spew it out across the Internet. There's a big outcry, a new set of privacy settings, then everything quietens down again until the next time. There's nothing you can do about it other than choose to use Facebook or not - you don't pay them for the service so the only things governing their behaviour is how many users can they keep (a lot!) and what laws they have to obey.

In my feeble opinion, if Facebook buy Waze, nothing much will happen for a while. But, in a year or two, I wouldn't be surprised to find that you can only log onto Waze with your Facebook account. When that happens, I probably will be off - I don't have a Facebook account and I don't intend to.

But, until then, I'm doing this because I enjoy it (it certainly ain't for the money  ) and I'm sure that's true for most of us. This thread is good because we get the chance to have our say and know we're not alone in our feelings. If the buyout happens and things change, that's when we'll each have to make our own decision.

Its just my opinion but waze should stay as it is I like facebook and all but waze is one of the best apps I have come across in a long time but at the end of the day its up to the owners they have the final say but we can all keep the faith and hope.
