So will waze then be integrated into google maps completely eventually?

The google road maps are built for real-world accuracy rather than routing simplicity, which is the opposite to waze.

I can't envisage both types of (conflicting) data existing for long, and waze maps are far less complete.

It seems very much a move to stop competition (apple/Facebook) getting a foothold. But they're making noises about a hands-off approach for 3years so the competition/monopolies overseers are less inclined to get involved.

My expectation: waze editors invited to join existing google map maker community. Any improvements in routing algorithms subsumed into gMaps

Thanks for the positive, informative update :)

Google aerials are certainly clearer than Bing in certain areas, Australia especially where bing are plagued by cloud cover and bad resolution.

It is very pleasing to see such innovation rising from a small Israeli community project to become a worldwide recognizable success.

We hope you will keep the Waze community spirit living inside Google, and keep improving Waze for us all.

Congratulations for all! It seems as though it is well deserved.

I'm interested to see what the long term effects are, and what all will change with this new relationship. I do hope though, that the Waze team is more forthcoming with information in the "whats coming" department, than they have been with the aquisition discussions and rumors. I was rather demotivated by the prospect that facebook may have been acquiring the data/company. Now that the truth is known, I hope waze will keep an open relationship and communication path with the userbase about what changes to expect, and the general timeline. I understand it's "business as usual" right now, but it will inevitably change. I just hope those changes aren't kept quiet.

Shirlig,

Thank you for the recent post. Regardless of what the future holds with this merger, open and honest communications like this will be a largely contributing factor in keeping acceptance and approval from the community.

I think the one HUGE take away from all of the posts in this thread, is that we're generally ok with change, as long as we're aware of them, rather than being in the dark.

So with that, I for one REALLY appreciate your last post, and look forward to countless others in the future!
