Here's my hope: If Waze is ultimately to be joined at the hip to other Google apps, I'd like Google to give Wazers a fast track to making updates to Google Maps. A lot of the point-of-interest searches go awry via third-party queries (Google and Bing), and when revisions are submitted they take eons before they're approved, if at all.

You know, I kind of doubt they're going to do that. Why would they just get a bunch of people mad for no profitable purpose?

What would be the incentive for Waze editors to join the Google "community"? I got a free nav app from Waze, at least, and I don't need to compound my map-making addiction with more work. I don't expect to see any merging -- except for the ads, of course.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm delighted at the prospect of getting aerials (far better than Bing's in my area) and Street View!

You're pretty well informed about the financial position of Waze! Thanks for sharing.

But I would kindly ask you to keep it to a discussion in a normal way.

Thanks!

If you have two customers, one that heavily edits in Google's editor and one that heavily edits in the Waze editor, will each of their efforts help the entire community going forward? In other words, if I add a road in Google that also isn't in Waze, does my effort help the Waze community and vice versa? If it does not, I think it would be a squandered opportunity that could come from this acquisition. The collective community together can create a much more accurate map than the divided community can when kept separate.
Totally agree with you Jeff. these two communities coming together has mind blowing potential.

This really is great news! I think Waze and Google will be much better as partners instead of competitors.

A couple of thoughts on that: 1) Waze rocks inside cities while Google rocks a lot more on long drives and inter-city travel. Merging the capabilities there would make a formidable nav app 2) I think Waze can learn a few things from Google Navigation's main screen layout and 3) Many of Google's landmarks (at least in India) are inaccurate, but they're there. They could be made more accurate thanks to Waze's editors.

All in all, very excited about the future.

mmmm, in Italy I seen GE aerials better than B only on a big cities. The rest of the country have no accurate and precise images... then... I will continue to look at B to understand the junctions, cause the Wme's zoom is not working :(
