Open Source and OSM

Post by MafiaInc
Hi,

I'm a newcomer. In general I like the idea of Waze, but I have few important questions I would like to clarify myself before start using it. If anyone can help me I would be happy. They are very concrete:

1. Is Waze client open source? (if yes where can we download the source)
2. Is Waze map data open and in what license? (very important) (if yes where how can we download MAP data any API?)
3. Have you considered to use OSM (openstreetmap)? This way Waze will be in help of already started collaborative mapping community which MAP data is available under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 licence.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,
Martin

The OSM license was recently discussed in another recent thread as well. There was no input from Waze in that thread, though. Just user speculation.

Welcome!

1. The source code can be obtained from the wiki.
2. I'm 99.9% sure that Waze's map data is not open.
3. Waze has decided (for now) to not collaborate with OSM, and here are the reasons why.
