SH20 Hillsborough Rd Northbound Offramp

Post by SMLol379
Hi,

I'd like to split the offramp into a 'left' and 'right', to get the navigation instructions read out earlier.

Currently, the 'turn left'/'turn right' happens just before the traffic lights rather than where the lanes split - too late to do anything much when driving! (Yes, it's only paint, but in traffic, you can't really get across in time.) How do people feel about me splitting it to get better navigation instructions?

(Being an off-ramp, it won't affect other things.)

Thoughts? Feelings?

I assume you mean here

Did you have a navigation problem or a UR report?

In this case I look for signs

The sign doesn't appear to give any indication of any difference between left and right.

Based on past experience if you stick with what the sign says it saves argument on what the turn instructions should say.

There are always exceptions

It reminds me when I was mapping overseas I once saw this box shape. Not sure what it was for but it could be used for a turn instruction

Just putting it out there...........................

Had a quick look

Usually a voice command is triggered by a road name change.

To force this you can add a blank (unnamed) section

or just wait for a map update and tweek as required

also install the road angles extension

After some thought I think you may have this angle wrong?

I don think you need another "turn left" command.

I think you need a no command merge?

* At the lights where you stop, "Turn Left Onto Hillsborough Rd".
In my opinion this is one of the problems with slip lanes and extra complexity intersections.

Getting information you don't need.

Assuming you are in the correct slip lane why do you need a "turn left" command? The driver has no choice but to turn left.

Its the same at cross intersections, Straight through traffic has no command but turning left or right does. (not everybody agrees this is how it should be).

You normally only get a command when you need to make a choice that is not straight through.

Motorway on and of ramps are another good example of this. In fact this slip way works very similar to a motorway on ramp where we have intentionally removed the command.
