HUNTERVILLE - Satelite image vs Road / GPS

Post by Elwoodblues61
A bit puzzled by Hunterville.
My view is that all the hunterville roads are out by 30m compared to the satelite image. But SH1 road is aligned withe the GPS points.

Is that one map tile not aligned correctly?

Let people record the roads in the client, like Waze intended :-)

I know it is not good for your points, but it is better for the map.

is it worth locking those roads so they aren't redrawn per the google map?
Since the current WAZE map does correspond to the GPS points.

yep there are a few dodgy places

Hunterville was originally drawn with bing which was much better for that location

You know the irony is when I was in Oz I got told off by a Waze Global Champ for suggesting use of paved roads in cities. He suggested that in Europe they encourage new wazers only to trace from maps and not the client.

The other irony is I mapped the whole of Whangarei from my waze client. When we eventually got high res maps you could see the roads were rubbish. In my opinion the client mapping feature is only any good for the open road.

From memory Huntervillie and that whole area was a really bad ariel/cell signal area, so most of the roads would have been created using the Waze client (which BTW doesn't work for me anymore and hasn't for at least a year - I reported it as a bug and it never got fixed).

I am also a little concerned as there are roads there which I know I have driven multiple times and I also added in there (eg. Aldworth Rd), but they now say Created: January 02 by elwoodblues61(3) and the turn restrictions are set incorrectly.

Edit: Sorry cancel that, the road I was thinking of is further up and still there, didnt realise I drove soo far off from SH1 before turning onto it. I would still like to know why parts of the road where there is no cell signal keep disappearing but thats a different issue.

Looks like you're correct elwood.

Look here: https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=175.56 ... TT&env=row

And you can see the split in the road...

IMO one half dozen of the other. Most of the maps drawn, existing waze people wouldn't normally drive over unless they made a special trip, so we draw from existing aerial maps. Usually we have a high amount of paved roads in the metro areas, so we don't normally draw from a aerial.

There are a lot townships that have sub-standard aerials, so we have to use the best tools what we have at the time (being aerials or paving).
