Daphna Ofek is the product manager responsible for the new “Feature Exposure” project. You may remember her from the awesome Planned Drive feature.
She started this project a year and a half ago and shares here what it’s all about and why it’s going to benefit Wazers around the globe. So, let’s dive in!
So what is exactly the feature exposure project?
“Feature exposure via encouragement” is approaching app messages in a new way so we can present the right message to the right audience at the right time. See some examples here:
Some of the messages existed before, but now have a new and improved look, copy and most important - better logic! What do we mean by better logic? We are defining the target audience of each message better + working on optimizing the timing to bring the best results (based on higher relevance + better timing)
Here’s the list of messaging from Phase 1:
Rate the app
Enable push notifications
Join the Carpool service
Enter your license plate number
Sync your calendar
Become a Waze editor
Share ETA
Enter home and work
Why did Waze decide to invest in this project? What added value do we want to give Wazers with this info?
This type of messaging is a way to expose users to features and options they are not aware of yet. We are now able to meet the right people with the right messaging. This is critical to the success of the message. We want the messages to be valuable and interesting to you (the user) and reduce the possibility of bothering you with irrelevant messages.
What's the expected impact on our users' activity?
Exposing the right message at the right time can increase different feature usage and increase overall Waze usage. These messages can also introduce users to additional Wazey activities like Map Editing or Carpool.
Another new feature is the action on notification, what can you tell us about it?
Actions on push notifications are all about enabling actions directly from the notification. This broadens the interaction and response options the user has when receiving a push notification.
Examples for a few actions: Why are Push notifications important for users?
Push notifications are a communication tool which gives valuable info outside the app. The ability to react/respond to a message outside the app should be convenient and intuitive.
What’s the role of the community in this project?
We would love to hear which actions you find most valuable on the different push notifications you receive. Also, let us know which features inside of Waze you think people do not know about. Whenever possible, we can use this platform to promote them.
Will this be listed in the “What’s new” section in the app store and play store?
Yes, when this feature is launched it will be announced in the What’s New section in the iOS and Android app stores. We always try to have these fields as updated as possible for new releases.
Thank you!
