Waze Connected Citizens Program

Post by MGODLEW
Hello Fellow Wazers,

Many of you may not know Waze has begun partnering with Government Agencies & Cities around the world in a new program called Waze Connected Citizens.

The Waze Connected Citizens program brings cities and citizens together to answer the questions “What’s happening, and where?” We exchange publicly available incident and road closure reports, enabling our government partners to respond more immediately to accidents and congestion on their roads. In turn, we aggregate our partners' data on the Waze platform, resulting in one of the most succinct, thorough overviews of current road conditions today.

With the addition of city data, Wazers will be even safer on the roads and more knowledgeable about construction, marathons, floods or anything else that can cause delays. And for our government partners, publicly-available Waze data is a powerful tool to build more efficient cities. Real-time information from drivers is essential; no one knows more about what's happening in a city than the people who live there. In an era with smart phones, smart cars and smart homes, isn't it about time we start building smarter cities?

The first 10 partners (otherwise known as W10) who have committed to work with Waze are:
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Barcelona, Spain and the Government of Catalonia
  • Jakarta, Indonesia
  • Tel Aviv, Israel
  • San Jose, Costa Rica
  • Boston, MA. USA
  • State of Florida, USA
  • State of Utah, USA
  • Los Angeles County
  • The New York Police Department (NYPD)
I encourage you to contact your Local Municipality or City Government, Government Officials, Departments of Transportation, Departments of Public Works, Utility Companies, 911 Emergency Dispatch Centers &/or Police Departments and see if they are willing to get involved. Simply have them submit an inquiry using this form: Connected Citizens Program Inquiries

We're trying to get Arizona DOT interested in the program.

I'd like to share a generalized template I created for those who wish to reach out to their local Government Agencies & Cities or Department of Transportation.
Dear Mayor / Government Agency Name,

I am reaching out to you to see if [Agency Name] would be interested in considering a partnership with Waze. Waze (http://www.waze.com) is the world's largest community-based traffic and GPS navigation app. A Waze partnership with the [Agency Name], along with Waze users in [Area/City/State] who share real-time traffic and road info can save everyone time and gas money on their daily commute, best of all, for FREE. Waze's goal is to help alleviate some of the headaches for drivers by routing them around traffic, closures and alerting them of constructions zones and road hazards. Several major cities & government agencies have already began partnering with Waze including Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, New York City & the NYPD. Additionally, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet along with the Florida Department of Transportation have partnered with Waze as well with no costs to the taxpayers. I hope you will consider making [Agency Name] the next partner.

To get started:

Here is a brief video explaining the Waze Partnership:

Here is an overview explaining the Connected Citizens Program:

Here is the form to inquire about a Partnership:

***When you reach the "How did you hear about us" portion of the form please add "Waze Champ: MGODLEW" <-Insert your own Rank & Username

P.S. - To see Waze in action, check out the ABC New's findings on Waze. (https://gma.yahoo.com/video/apps-waze-h ... 17710.html)

Respectfully Submitted,

Why not https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Connected_Citizens_Program the official name. You can leave Connected_Citizens as a redirect page, (with a redirect from https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Connected_citizens_program as well for the Case sensitivity issue)?
