I just confirmed this as working on Sept 6, 2012(viewtopic.php?f=10&t=15178&start=230#p237398)...

Is it "Penn Street" or "Penn State" you are trying to do?

Are you sure "Penn" comes out as "Pennsylvania"? That style abbreviation isn't on the TTS test list for state names at all... I guess I'll have to add "Conn" to see if it comes out "Connecticut", although I'd think it either comes out "Conn" or "Connector"...
I was just digging through the list, and found "Penn" does actually come out as "Pennsylvania" (it's under P, not under the states list). It's tagged as an R for removal, but who knows when that may (or may not) happen...

+1 for ease of use...

Thanks Andy...

Adding your results to the list now.

Did you happen to test "Conn." with the period too?
I was testing for "Connector" but I'll add "Conn." to my test rig... It's kinda small, so I can only do a few at a time...

Alright, here's a screwy one...

There's a ramp I take when I'm headed back to the office from the northeastern part of CT... The sign & the ramp in Waze is labeled "...Charter Oak Br..." For the longest time the TTS said "Charter Oak Bridge", a few days ago a UR popped up that noted that TTS was saying "Charter Oak Branch"... :? I checked the TTS list, sure enough "Br" translates to "Branch"... I drove it today (haven't been out that way in about a month or so), and what do I hear "Charter Oak Branch"... :x

What's up with the 2 possibilities? (it also needs to get noted on the list)

"Br" is pretty standard in the North East for "Bridge"... As you can see from this Street View in NYC that includes the "Triboro Br", "Geo Washington Br" & "Whitestone Br"...

How common is it that "Br" is used for "Branch" in the rest of the US?

GizmoGuy411 wrote:Looking at the list again, "Br" is not a good choice for "Bridge" based on the official abbreviations of the US Postal Service and the federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
I'm just saying that it's on road signs all over the place (at least up here in the North East)...
GizmoGuy411 wrote:At least I've heard of the word "Branch, but "Stravenue" ? I had to look that one up when I first found it in the USPS list. And as uncommon as it may be, I think it wins for having the most possible abbreviations.
"Stravenue"? Really? Are you sure that's not a typo? I mean, come on, the 'S' is right next to the 'A' on the keyboard...

Couple of things...

1) "Conn." becomes "con" in TTS
2) "CT-" becomes "Court" (expected, but was hoping the dash would trigger something useful)
3) Found the CT Abbreviation list (or at least one of them - I have a feeling there are more & it's document dependent) - it's hidden in the Highway Log PDF... Pages 7-9 at http://www.ct.gov/dot/LIB/dot/Documents ... hwylog.pdf. "Br" = Bridge, "Bra" = Branch. We also have abbreviations for "Corrugated Metal Pipe" & "Corrugated Metal Plate Pipe Arch" if anyone is interested...

1) "Capt" as in "Capt Andrew Rd" is pronounced "Capped" (close, but you get the idea)
1a) Changed to "Capt." for next tile update - will test "Cap" next

2) "Hosp" is pronounced "Hos-puh" (used "Hosp Rd" - i.e. "Turn Right onto Hospital Road")
2a) Changing position for further tests (Now using "Test Hosp" - i.e. "Turn Right into City Hospital")
