I would expect that Wazers are expecting avoid toll roads to avoid toll bridges and tunnels also. IMO they need to be marked.

Although Perlin has stated that Waze will be adding a graphical indicator in a future client that specifies that the route has a toll. So do we really need to add/maintain the work (Toll) in the road name?bgodette wrote:This means toll roads probably should be marked with (Toll) so they stand out in the alternate routes list.

Although where is the guideline in the Wiki that states that toll ramps and / or roads should be labeled with toll in the name?
I don't see nor ever have seen anything here or anywhere else in the Wiki:

Also, I would assume that the toll-avoidance option will be available on a beta client prior to general release.AlanOfTheBerg wrote:...I think we need to time the enabling on the client with when the tiles will actually have updated info. Otherwise, Waze will get LOTS of complaints about the toll road avoidance feature not working.

Yup. Let's not get hung up on the word "road"; this feature is toll avoidance--road, bridge, tunnel, gate, ferry, troll, won't make a bit of difference to the typical "avoid tolls" driver.WeeeZer14 wrote:We've done a good job about toll roads, but how are we on toll bridges/tunnels? The NYC metro area has tons. I know the client option says avoid toll ROADS, but most people will consider a bridge just the same. (Wow. Echos of the National Park conversation.)
FTR, the Tobin Bridge (into Boston on Route 1 SB), Sumner Tunnel (into Boston on Route 1A SB) and Ted Williams Tunnel (I-90 W from Logan Airport) already have toll designation. Other than those--and the MassPike, also done--I am not aware of any other tolls in MA. If there are, I am sure someone will point them out soon enough, either on the forum or in an update request.

Thanks for this! I knew about the ferries in Oregon, and now I just love the one ferry I was concerned with, in terms of its schedule. It would require a ferry/toll designation as well has having time-based restrictions: "'Open Mid-April thru October; closed Mon-Tue, open Wed-Fri 7am-5pm, Sat-Sun 9am-7pm" Sheesh.WeeeZer14 wrote:Also in another post I posted this link here. It probably isn't a 100% list but it does list ferries and toll bridges. Might help some folks out determining things.
EDIT: So, I, AlanOfTheBerg wrote the above, but apparently I hit Edit on HavanaDay's post instead of Quote.
Dang you expect me to remember what I wrote yesterday. I am pretty sure it had something to do with giving me the option of the toll road as an alternative if it is actually faster and letting me make that decision. I think bgodette's post above answers that question so that is a good thing.AlanOfTheBerg wrote:Dang, I'm sorry about that. I totally didn't notice. Cursed moderator abilities! HavanaDay, please repost if you can remember what it is you wrote.
We discuseed it but never actually made it "official". Maybe we should.gettingthere wrote:Although where is the guideline in the Wiki that states that toll ramps and / or roads should be labeled with toll in the name?

I assume like most SW development teams, the actual development time is often tiny compared to the SQA you need to do on it.AlanOfTheBerg wrote:I thought it was a single line of code change in a config file was all that was required for this to work, so I'm not sure why that couldn't be done in 30 seconds, but that's the word at this time.

AlanOfTheBerg wrote:...because of the lag in the tile updates, it would be likely that the toll road avoidance would even work because the map won't include the required data to do the avoidance.
Very true. The forum and feedback in the app store would be bashing it for not working properly.
