Waze forum

Here in the St. Louis area, many of the local radio stations name the bridges when giving traffic reports. Example: "There's ice on the discovery bridge.", but they never/seldom name the Highway.

It occurred to me that if you're not from around here you're not going to know what highway to avoid.

Is this a common thing around the country? If it is, maybe we should be land-marking named bridges?

So since the landmark discussion is still locked, I wanted to make sure this point get's talked about.

Landmarks are one thing, but how about the roadway itself taking on the name of the bridge? It's been that way since basemap in Portland, OR and I've not wanted to change it because it's important to TTS matching signage.

Situation-dependent. You are correct that in some cases, the ramp name leading to the bridge will be named if there are other wayfinder infos to include. However, there are many approaches without named ramps, so Waze picks up the segment name of the bridge for TTS. At least, last time I checked, it would work this way.

EDIT2: just noticed that the Burnside Bridge, to the north, is not named as a bridge.

It's already in the landmark guidelines as

1.10 Bridge - Major Bridges Mapped as a rectangle or arc only to include the road. Please see local Wiki Pages / local Area Managers for information on what is considered "Major" and mapped for this category in your area.

No one presented any objections in either of the reviews the guidelines went through to landmarking Major Bridges.

I've been trying to get through the comments and figure out where we are, BUT thanks to a blizzard, work has had to take a priority.

I would just add that by having the bridge as a named segment, the bridge name now shows up in the beta purple route name boxes. I find this to be beneficial.

Technically, it shouldn't matter ... since Waze should already have picked up on the traffic jam caused by drivers slowing down by the ice and redirected you to the fastest/shortest alternative route. (In a perfect Waze world, that is! )

Ah, the other main reason I got involved with editing in the first place... Around here especially, even when Waze know's about the traffic, it often doesn't route around, or picks the worst possible route around. Hopefully *knocks on wood*, the AM's and I have managed to clean most of that up.
