What about Gas Station Landmarks that were pre-existing? Like these two https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat ... TTTTTTTFTT that I created back in May in anticipation of this change? Were they updated to link to the Gas Price System?

BJ's, Costco, Stop & Shop all have branded gas stations, so be careful when editing the list...

I've gotten URs about them NOT being in the Gas Price System, so they should be on the map. I don't have any objections to a "Members Only" tag.CTGreybeard wrote:Hmmm, at Costco (and maybe BJ's, too) you must be a member to buy gas. If we have Costco stations are we going to route someone, anyone, there? Maybe the name ought to be "Costco [Members Only]" or some such ...AndyPoms wrote:BJ's, Costco, Stop & Shop all have branded gas stations, so be careful when editing the list...

I think that the "Brand" field should relate to the Marketing/Signage as that is most visible. I don't think users should see "Unbranded" in the client and pull up to the pumps that say "Gulf" or "Mobil". I would prefer to use "Unbranded" for those independent stores that have only one (or a few local locations) who's signage says things like "Gas" or "Bob's Fuel", etc.
There is also the issue of branded stations going unbranded due to disputes between the franchise & the franchisee - something going on here in CT. I'll have to hunt for the link, although I thought I posted it here before...

Waze editors are not gasoline quality control police and so should not try to enforce branding agreements by what brand truck goes to what brand gas station.

This may be off topic and a little late since this thread is a couple of months old, but I found a Flagstop Car Wash and Quick Lube placed by Admin on April 14th in Colonial Heights, Virginia. The placement on the map was probably about 5 miles off, and I corrected that, but its marked as a gas station in the properties even though it doesn't sell gas. I'm kind of new to map editing, and I'm still learning, but I want to do things right.
Any suggestions as to how to handle this? Here is the permalink to the area in question. https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=7&lat ... rks=690350
Thanks!

What happens to gas stations in the database if we delete the landmark because the station doesn't actually exist?

We'll that's the point there are a few like the one I linked to that no longer physically exist, yet somehow the 3rd party manages to update the prices. I would love for you to lose the automatic update of prices from the external resource for these closed stations.shirlig wrote: 4) We highly recommend NOT to delete the gas stations that we integrated (usually their names appear in uppercase, they contain data like phone number, address etc) to the map because we will also lose automatic update of prices from the external resource. (You can edit their details, just don't delete them)

You guys are waaay over thinking this naming scheme. Do what GasBuddy and YP and everyone else does: use the brand name on the sign. If no brand name, use the station's name. If that isn't obvious, say Unbranded.
It is completely irrelevant to the users whether Costco gets their gas from BP or Conoco or Marathon. It's a Costco gas station and it should be labelled as such. Walmart stations are all Murphy USA unless they're not on-property, then they're Murphy Express. Sam's Club is Sam's Club. We should follow the same rules other gas price sites use for the sake of clarity.
In my area, we have a lot of Tom Thumb stations (the Kroger one, not the one in the midwest) and they all use CITGO. CITGO even has their logo on some of the pumps, but everyone knows it as Tom Thumb. So that's how they're labelled. Only the non-Tom Thumb CITGOs are called CITGOs around here.
