I haven't played around with landmarks. Are these large enough that the names would even show up?

I kinda agree with sketch, "I know what the guidelines say, I just don't think it's a terrible idea. " My only question is, could someone walking around on campus with Waze open to walk to one of these mapped buildings trigger missing road reports?

Isn't the intention of Waze to help you drive between work/school and home - the operating word being drive? I totally understand wanting to use one app for as much as possible, but frankly, walking with Waze is way out of its scope, and moreso, traffic jams are irrelevant when you are walking. Also, unless you're walking along only parking lot roads, whose speed data is suppressed, doing so with Waze turned on can, over time, corrupt the speed metrics of those roads, or even cause it to falsely report traffic jams, ultimately doing the Waze system a disservice.

I think it comes down to what was said already... the entire campus is a landmark and the individual buildings are POIs. Waze will be adding points of interest, so we should not promote adding landmarks for places that will be POIs. That just means a lot of editing to remove all of those later. Also, as pointed out, names will tend to float around so they don't overlap. I have seen the current road name appear on another road because of this and that can cause people to make incorrect turns.

And until Waze provide the option of using it for walking/biking, we shouldn't be promoting anything that makes people think it's fine to use Waze when you aren't driving as that just messes up speed data and generates MPs. If you're providing a lot of landmarks for things you have to walk to, then you're promoting using it while walking and that just doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I already see GPS marks throughout parks and down rivers and across lakes. Thankfully most of those aren't near enough to roads to matter, but that isn't really what Waze is for. At least, not currently.

Honestly, I like the idea. The only problem I have with mapping campus buildings is that it means you can't /quite/ have both that a large area landmark for the entire campus, which is more important.

Although I personally don't think I would mind having a bunch of floating names for campus buildings within the larger landmark.

The names would show, at least when not navigating and/or when not in 3d mode.

I know what the guidelines say, I just don't think it's a terrible idea.

I mapped the parking garage at my university to see how it would look. I don't hate it. But I do agree that, as long as landmarks within landmarks aren't displayed, it's more important to show the campus than it is to show each building.

Hopefully we can change that soon, cause trying to find a campus map and use it on your phone is almost always a pain in the ass.

I'm not saying I think it should be the rule, just saying I don't mind it.

But, good point, I do think that major college sports stadiums should be included.
