Mapping turning lanes

Post by ChrisFromZA
Hi guys. A new, very annoying thing is starting to show its ugly head.... people mapping turning lanes on perfectly normal roads as an entirely separate road running next to the main road for the length of the turning lane.

Example:
This:

Was mapped as:

/rant over...

Hmm, something odd happened. As you can see in my screenshot I had changed Rocky Rd into a single two way road.

Today it seems like all my changes have been rolled back, and not by the editor, by Waze: https://world.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&l ... n=27.97784

Check the last edited date says 3rd of March. Anybody else pick this up?

I saw that, I just wasn't aware that they roll back editor maps as well.

There is one editor, namely Petrus_cilliers, that is causing havoc in Randburg. He did this section and many others up and down Malibongwe drive.

Don't worry about it! We all started somewhere and learnt these lessons along the way.

I also saw some earlier yesterday. Some even had multiple one way segments pointing in different directions, so no routing could ever take place over them. I'll see as I go through URs later today if I spot some more and take note of the editor(s) in question.
If we cannot contact them via pm, support might be the way to go.
I'm not anti-AT altogether where it makes sense, but overdoing it is not acceptable.
Leaving it red and non-routable is also not on.

Edit: The ones I saw was also in Randburg area as well as Roodepoort.

I have not been as busy editing as I would have wanted to, but you might be affected by the rollback that was announced - http://status.waze.com/intl-map-rollbac ... 3-0855-utc.

I have not seen an update to this, so it should still be in progress.

There's quite a few revcons in that piece of work due to the 2 way to one-way assignments and none of the cross-connections are < 10m.
That's going to be a u-turn heaven for Waze if traffic gets busy ;)

I'd leave the area for now and wait until the completion is announced. Your changes might still be in progress and could still be rolled forward.

I did send a PM off to him with some pointers. Hopefully the email address is not a throw-away one like so many others still in my outbox.
If we need to lock some of the main routes at higher levels to stop the dualing yo-yo, let me know. We can likely pull in RodNav as well at level 5 if need be.
Mithrandi locked most of the Sandton and surrounds primaries after our last effort and touch wood, they remained that way so far. He has expanded his efforts to a large portion of Jhb main roads as well, so hopefully this should discourage other editors.
I just hate having to lock up everything, as it complicates matters for all involved.

I see they've updated the status page, so the 'hang in there' recommendation still applies :
Waze Status Page wrote:INTL MAP ROLLBACK TO MARCH, 15 2013 08:55 UTC (MARCH 19 UPDATE)
Hi Wazers,
This morning, the usual daily tile update process encountered a problem, and we had to roll back the update the to one before, from March, 15 2013 08:55 UTC.
We're working on solving the issue, and to get back to our usualy daily process soon.
Infrastructure Team

*UPDATE* - edits preformed prior to the rollback are not lost, but they are temporarily invisible.
All of the edits will reappear soon.
It should be the same as the NA server experienced a while ago, with all the edits in flux for a day or two after that, but Waze did recover the edits up to date for most if not all of NA edits up to the rollback.

It was not there when I first posted, hence the update

Just thought I'd put your mind at ease about lost edits.
