Points/score not updating (March-June 2017 session)

Post by vince1612
This is the thread where we will re-group all usual/regular complaints from people who worry about their points from March 2017 until June 2017. For reference and to free some space from the stickied threads, here are the links to the previous threads that had the same purpose:

Points/score not updating (March-April 2016 session)23223-
Statistics seem to show that people are actually starting to read more and post less, which is good!
However we know that many will still not read anything and ask/complain/panic etc... But for the ones who are smart engouh to search and read before posting out there, here's what you need to know:
  • The Google help pages for Waze answer most questions already.
  • People on this forum are community members (more or less users like you), not staff or technicians who can access the Waze databases to check or fix anything.
  • Showing you are frustrated, writing in CAPS things like "FIX IT NOW!!!" or threatening to uninstall is useless here. Why? Read the second thing to keep in mind again.
  • If your problem is that points are not updating, they are not lost. (don't panic)
  • If your problem is that they haven't updated in less than 1 week = a usual server delay. Just wait a little more.
  • If your problem is that they haven't updated in less than 2 weeks = a less-usual but still common server delay. Just wait a little more.
  • If your problem is that they haven't updated in less than 3 weeks = still a server delay. This happens more rarely but is not unheard of. No need to start a panic.
  • If your problem is that they haven't updated in more than 3 weeks. We suggest you contact Waze staff* to look into it, telling us about it or being angry at us is completely useless, why? Read the second thing to keep in mind again.
  • *Using the link I shared just above sooner than what is advised will most likely get you a canned response from staff telling you to wait also, so unless you like canned responses, wait before you use that method.
  • If we are between November and January disregard what is written above as during the holidays it is very common to have delays (much) longer than 3 weeks, because many more people are on the road for longer drives than the usual home-work-home routine. With everyone going to see family on the other side of the country globally, Waze servers are usually overloaded. By the end of January everything is usually back to normal and, yes - points do catch up and, no - points are not lost.
If you still have any other questions which are not covered in the list above, feel free to ask ;)

Also make sure you are not asking something which should have its own separate thread or that would be covered in one of the other stickied threads of this forum:
Points showing as negative or back to zero
Drives not showing up / Missing Drives
Baby Wazer status?

As always, please read and follow the Waze Community Communications Guidelines, General forum guidelines and the Forum Etiquette. In addition avoid doing the following:
  • Post or reply with a panic-filled message about how we're all doomed and points are lost, and we're all going to die, it's the end of the world etc...
    - Spare yourself from sounding ridiculous and paranoid over points in a smartphone App, because again: No, points are not lost. Those who tried to start a mass-panic before were always proven wrong in the end and their points ended up showing up sooner or later.
  • Post daily counts of how many days it has been since the last update
    - We all know how to count and don't need someone to post one message per day to know it's been 24h. That will be considered as useless spamming.

As you'll have seen if you've read some of the other posts in this thread, drives, points and score updates can be delayed. Sometimes they appear quickly, other times, you have to wait 2 or 3 weeks. Don't worry, though, Waze keeps details of your drives, as long as you were connected via wi-fi or a mobile data signal at the start and finish. If you weren't online, however, the drive can be partially recorded or even lost completely.

n4dog wrote:Not sure why my post was moved. But the points are behind several days again. Just FYI to all that come to ask about it.
Because your previous post mainly spoke of drives, not points, and because we're in July. I'm locking this thread now.

Also long time Wazers such as you should know that "several days" is not really a surprise nor unusual, so I don't think it's really worth reporting in general. I can understand messages from new users, but unless there is a longer delay than usual I would hope not to see experienced Wazers post here as we explained countless times before that this was "normal" and that there is nothing we can do about it anyway.

I've merged your new thread + other posts in other threads in the same place. Please mind the forum posting guidelines (available in the "Read me first" section)
No cross posting: If you post a question in one forum, don't post the same question in other forums simply to get more visibility.
As for the answers you're seeking:
SLColomboCityRider wrote:Is anybody know what is the schedule of waze points get added to our account. I have noted that for last 5 days earned waze points are not added to my account.
Read the first post in this thread, it should let you know that a 5 days delay is nothing unusual.
SLColomboCityRider wrote:I feel Waze team should fix this issue, the ratings should be updated real time if possible to keep the client satisfaction up. I have tried asking friends to use Waze but they are now refusing to use the App as there is no immediate updates on score , rank etc.
We would ALL like for points to work better and update in real-time and we would ALL like for Waze staff to find a way to avoid the sadly regular points update delays, but as I also say in the first post there is unfortunately nothing that we can do about it, which is why asking us more or less the same question in different forums is not going to make anything magical happen.

Just like I also said in that post, it is useless to show frustration in order to try to add weight to your post, so telling stories about your friends who just find out about the app and seem not to want to use the many features it has just because points don't update more often, well, true or not, it's not going to change anything to the situation. I say this because this has been going on for years and I've seen many people try various strategies, arguments, stories to try to get staff to react here and it never works. Mainly because again, this is a community supported forum, we're not responsible, we can't fix it. And believe me when I say that we have been telling staff about this and continue to do so on a regular basis, so we know and we're trying, but please there is no need to post a message about this every 2-4 days in a different place in the forum, that's not gonna help or change anything.
SLColomboCityRider wrote:How we can get the waze points added to our account in a faster way?
Sorry but no, there is nothing you can do except to wait. I know some people cannot handle waiting, well, sorry, if I had a fix or magic solution I'd share it, I just don't. All I can do is share with you what I know to be true as we've observed it many times over the years:

This situation is due to the fact that Waze has never updated their points server in the past years. Since Google bought the company and that the community of users has grown their focus has been mostly on new features or improving ones that can generate revenue somehow. The community has very little say in what the priorities should be. So now, the Points server is basically a dinosaur which was built for a much younger app with much fewer users than what Waze has today. As we've been seeing over the years, it usually works "ok" most of the time, there are always hiccups every now and then, but we've all mostly learned to live with it, because 99% of the time points do catch up and are just late, not lost..
Imagine this a bit like if your local Post Office would still employ only one employee in the same small office for a town which has grown to 10x it's original size.. The once effective worker would have a hard time to continue to manage everyone's mail effectively, that's what's happening to the points server.

If I remember correctly it took about a week for my first edit candy to pop up on the map. That was when the points were updating daily.
