oh yes, i have found out that if you are driving in some place and you are getting no candy, but you do turn in the next corner, you will get the candy (even though you will not slow down enough to consider your car at 0 speed). Well, that gets to happen a few times, i do that when i am not getting the candy.

1) Correct. The candies are awarded virtually real time.

2) I've never found a firm pattern. My first one is often at the same place just after I start the app but after that they vary greatly although I get more consistent results if I've plotted a route. A candy will usually pop up at a junction shortly after I've passed another and my odds of reaching that next one are 100% unless I do a u-turn mid-segment or stop.
