Haha - no, this is great. Keep going!

All approved!

I'm not sure about changing this one to be a point - although it was probably too big. I think the rule of thumb is that anything less than 40x40m should be a point, and anything larger should be an area. What size is this one? (I have attached the road segments though)

No, as far as I know, they're just like other places. Editing places has always been a bit buggy though, so they often disappear after you add them, but then show up a while later. Then if you add them again, you end up with too. It's a bit crazy...

For the second of those car parks: I think that one looks big enough to be an area place.

Anyway, soon enough you won't need approvals for creating places - I think you just need 20 to get to that stage.

No it was originally added by someone else as a point so I changed it from a point to an area. It was me who make it too big, although that’s the full property! Would I be better off just drawing around the front of the property?

Have a look at this UK Wazeopedia page (we don't have a specific page for Ireland, and fall back to UK guidance if we don't have a local policy: https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/UnitedKingdom/Places )

Summary: draw an area place around the building (although sometimes I go a bit bigger if it's a very small or odd-shaped building); if it's less than 40x40m, then make it a point place, otherwise keep it as an area place. As far as I remember, this hotel looked borderline as to which you'd choose (so your decision to convert it to a point place might have been just right!) (that said, I didn't check out the exact dimensions)

Yeah, there are dozens of WME extensions out there, some very useful, some less so. I only use about a dozen; I think Yanis uses about 50.

When I want to measure something, sometimes I just draw a segment alongside it, then save and see how long WME says the segment is, then delete the segment. If you're limited in how many segments you can delete, you could just borrow a nearby segment then put it back when you're finished. Be careful when you do this though, in case a tile generation happens at that exact moment, otherwise the borrowed segment might end up going live (and interrupting routing at that location)...

New Places Approval - Baltimore

Postby Rainking_IE » Tue Sep 01, 2020 2:54 pm

Hi all.

Please feel free to tell me to calm down with all the recent edits!

I added some new places in Baltimore, Co Cork that need approval. For some I opted to use a point rather than an area as some of the place are quite close.

I also changed an existing place from a point to an area that needs approval. Additionally I added entry and exits that need to be linked to the main road.

One other thing I was trying to do was add a place parking lot area for two car parks here and here. After looking at the best practice around car parks, I figured they were small enough and didn't need PLR's. Anyway, created the parking lot area, and saved the changes. Within a few minutes the area's disappeared from the map. Do you need to be a higher level editor or something to create car parks?

Cool, thanks for approving those.

I have noticed that before alright. Will check again later where there will probably be a few  .

I've reduced my arsenal actually  :ugeek:

I reviewed them in detail when I got a 4k monitor and started seeing performance issues. Chrome doesn't like rendering so many pixels and it still stalls sometimes at high zooms over busy areas..
