Intergrating reports from traffic authorities

Post by neon-samurai
In Australia (in NSW atleast) the roads and traffic authority (government organisation) monitors and provides a feed of changing traffic conditions. This feed is available on their site based on region. It can be viewed on the site or subscribed to RSS style. Im not sure if other countries do this, but it has been helpful as i check it before going home for myself, family and friends.

The RSS feed is split into regions (example in the link)

Is there any way that waze can use this data (from an official government source) and incorporate it into its real time traffic info?

here are some more examples of the data
http://livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/traff ... south.atom
http://livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/traff ... -west.atom

And here is the site

It's possible. There are some links in the website under Info or Contact perhaps, which may be able to use this info. Waze collects traffic data from all users regardless of street. A lot of governmental sources are based on in-road sensors which are only common on major roads.

I tried looking for contact info and couldnt find any. The traffic reports that the RTA geneate are based on both in rod sensors, and external resources, including community, police, fire and ambulance, state emergence services etc.

it would be cool to have (not critical though) as its also people generating content that may not even use waze (yet ;) )

Go to one of the main pages linked at the top of the screen, then at the bottom of that screen, click "About" -- then select "Contact Us" on the left-side menu. :)
