Do we add in Country Managers? Or will they pop by and add themselves?

I won't say a CM should be especially involved in the community, but there needs to be a level of involvement that shows that the user is able to stay on top of new rules and modified guidance.

I do agree that if the SM community role is going to be significantly higher than that of CM, then SC would be a better name. Coordinating editors, not just managing the map.

I never said, CM to be just an editing role but Waze does. I've always hoped (wanted) them (CMs) to be more involved in community. In fact, CMs for USA is more than an editing role, they need to know local issues, rules etc. They can edit in all 50 states so they need feel as if they are editing in 50 different countries. CM's need to have communication with the local editors and champ(s). For those reasons alone -for us in USA- CM is a community role. Thus, CM is the last step before becoming a US Champ. CMs need to get involved in community as much as SMs if not more. Naming it something else doesn't make sense to me. SM's primarily edits, helps with Unlock/Update, SM help editors with the issues related to editing, help wiki for their state, their state's forum page, SM will inform editors about the policies, SM will identify good and bad editors and report to RC, They will keep an eye on new editors in the state and help them by mentoring them formally or informally. None of these duties have anything to do with what RC does. SM cannot assign an AM area, nor upgrade/downgrade rank or block bad editors. That's the job for RCs and US Champs. If we want more from CMs and more community involvement, calling SM role 'coordinator' further complicate things.

In addition, Calling SM something else, just further confuse editors. We'd already created Group and Forum for SM. We have 8 or 9 SMs already working with the SM title. Also, Waze informed me that they are already working on the badge. Noam is going to mention SM in his by-weekly as well.

Here's an example for you: PesachZ went up to ladder and became SM. He showed excellent improvements on his editing and his community involvement. So much so that, most of you already know him. He later became a CM without any issues and with 100% approval from all (US Champs). I certainly think, SM should be a step before CM. Another layer of promotion.

Each state can make that call based on how active that CM is in the state. If you have one (or more) that are actively editing in the state you could add them, but if they don't live in the state, I would either PM to confirm if they want to be in, or just let them do it.

Only if SM is a required step before CM would I support SM being called a State Manager vs a State Coordinator. Maybe if SM is only in the USA we can make this a requirement since we are self-managed.

I think, it should be required. I have no problem with that. After all it's great for the community and certainly better for the editors. It adds a layer of promotion as well. It'll force editors to think of community a lot sooner, not when they reach 500K edits where we have to go back and forth with Waze on every case.

I would love to continue here, but these are off topic for the State Template suite. I'll post my answer to the [New Page] State Manager (SM)
