I just checked my settings and it was enabled on mine. So I must presume it is enabled by default.PhantomSoul wrote:Yes, the difficult turn "penalty" is in effect at all times for any user that has the "Avoid Difficult Turns" setting enabled in their client. Last I heard it was supposed to be enabled by default. Guess Waze wanted to address all the complaints by pointing to it as an active feature.
I'm actually afraid to add it to anything that isn't dangerous. We don't have all that many rerouting options on a small island.

While it is 24/7 currently, I take issue with saying it is a high penalty, or eyeing it to a TBTR or red arrow. It is a much lower penalty than both of those, much more aligned with say the BDP penalty as far a severity goes, without divulging any confidential numbers.DrNeubie wrote:Difficult turns are a 24/7 penalty currently. At some point in the future they may become "smarter" and be adjusted based on times / traffic but that is not a current feature. It places a high penalty on the turn; for all intents and purposes right now it functions similar to a red arrow or a 24/7 TBTR.

Yes, the difficult turn "penalty" is in effect at all times for any user that has the "Avoid Difficult Turns" setting enabled in their client. What's less clear is whether that setting is enabled for users by default when it is launched.
Because of this, I would recommend using them sparingly, as stated in the proposed wiki. In fact, under the Defining a Difficult Turn heading, we should clearly state the penalty is in effect at all times, i.e. 24/7.
I'm ok with the bullets for when not to mark a difficult turn. There may be some exceptions, but I'm pretty sure those exceptions are largely trivial to the wiki, and can easily be handled when identified on a case by case basis by working together with local editing leadership. Let's not forget this is merely a guide and not a be-all-end-all.

Only if the Wazer has the the "Avoid Difficult Turns" setting checked. It is important to note, imho, that this is an opt in / opt out feature.DrNeubie wrote:Difficult turns are a 24/7 penalty currently. Under when not to use a difficult turn
Intersections with traffic lights or when stop signs are at all streets.
I'm not sure I fully agree with this requirement. There are some difficult left turns at intersections with traffic signals for all of the crossing streets that you may sit at the signal for several cycles and have to take a chance making the left turn while blocking traffic and making more a hazard of yourself.
I can fully agree with the all way stop sign never needing this designation however.
