I landed at this forum from the link near the top of the current Best Practice article. If I should instead ask via Discord, please point me to the appropriate server / channel (I'm currently only on Waze NWR Editors).

I'd like to see a section added for guidance on what kinds of Places to add, and if/when adding a place the pros/cons/preferences for Address details including Street, 'House Number', alternate names, etc.

Thanks in advance! - Bryan

I would second this as an idea.

Pretty much any place can be added and the more details added the better. If questioning a specific place and/or detail, I would ask the NWR leadership for their input.

Maybe there just needs to be a banner at the top of all US pages that say to check the regional page first since this would be valid for pretty much everything.

Information about adding places is on the places page and its subpages.

I wouldn't include verbiage about checking the regional page first, since that applies across the board to everything in the wiki.

[Page Update] Best Map Editing Practice

Postby Mvan231 » Fri Dec 21, 2018 2:06 pm

I'm working on some updates to the best map editing practice page.

The initial updates are only to the undividing roads section and can be seen here.

The discussion about adding the u-turns to the PLRs in the parking lots section is straight forward, but leads most people to just do the long PLR segments. In many lots one (or two) side(s) of the lot has perpendicular parking spots and those segments can also benefit from having the u-turns enabled. In some ways it is worse parking on them w/o the u-turns since you get three sides of the rectangle vice just two.

Example [ img ]

Waze routes around three sides of a rectangle vice just considering a u-turn while pulling out of the perpendicular parking.

Current wording:
On any two-way segment which travels directly along perpendicular parking spaces, set the U-turns at either end of the segment to Allowed. This enables the routing server to implicitly direct the user to exit their parking spot in the optimal direction

Proposed additions: Add in mbox with "Any two way segment includes both the shorter end cap segments and the longer main aisles.”

Final wording: On any two-way segment which travels directly along perpendicular parking spaces, , set the U-turns at either end of the segment to Allowed. This enables the routing server to implicitly direct the user to exit their parking spot in the optimal direction.
{{mbox | type=important | text = Any two way segment includes both the shorter end cap segments and the longer main aisles.}}

Edited on 7/8/20 to remove the part about looking at the Region page to confirm whether it follows it or not.

I can remove the part about checking the region’s page So will just clarify what segments need the u-turns.
