Road types

Postby petervdveen » Tue Apr 12, 2011 8:39 pm

Hi,

After some discussion with other Slovenian wazers we've made this list of road categories.

It's based on some official documents regarding road categories and functions.

Freeways
A-Roads (Avtocesta)
H-Roads (Hitra Cesta)

Major Highway
(Glavna cesta)
Roads labeled with the numbers 1-12 and 101-111 (1-200)
In waze we don't use a prefix for these roads.

Minor Highway
(Regionalna cesta)
Roads labeled with the numbers 201-941
In waze we don't use a prefix for these roads.

Primary Roads
All other 'main' roads in or outside the city.

All other roads are just labeled as road.

I think the best way to label roads that are closed during the winter and very small mountain paths that are normaly not used as 'Service Roads'.

Roads with a number + a streetname
Roads with a number + a streetname are labeled like this:

900 - Streetname

Roads without streetname
Roads without streetname inside towns, villages, ... are named same as town
(eg.: city: Lesce;
street name: Lesce)

Indeed. All normal Latin letters can be used.

I was thinking that one of the uses would be to type street names that contain čžš characters in version that has czs instead. Concern that I have is that foreigners will likely have a problem with input of čžš for routing purposes.

Would Waze find search of "Miklosiceva" if the street is encoded as "Miklošičeva" now?

Hi,

The alternative street name is not used at this moment.
It should be in the future, but it can take a very long time before it get's enabled.

The streetnames you add to the map are not used to search for it.
Waze has a different database with all the streetnames. This database is used for searching.
I don't know how the streetnames are in this database, but you should try if it makes any difference.
I very curious to it.
The streetnames you add are for the routing so the client can show you which street your driving in. ;)

I don't know where this database comes from.

They claim that they synchronice this database with the streetnames you enter in the editor, but I've only see this sync happen a few times.
They will use the streetnames you enter, but don't be surprised if they only sync it twice a year.

You can send them an email to ask it.

Hello to all

@petervdveen
Minor Highway
(Regionalna cesta)
Roads labeled with the numbers 201-941
The 'prefix' for this roads is the 'R'
This prefix is also not displayed on roadsigns.

Is prefix a must or number is OK?

I also want to know which type are roads on rest area (počivališče) on freeways (parking lot, service road, street), and if exit to rest area is also marked as ramp :?:

What about roads with both number and name which symbol is best between (907 - Savska cesta), I add only space and no sign (-, / etc)?

thanks for answer :)

Yes , symbols (č,š,ž) can be used when naming streets, cites, landmarks, etc

Are we using alternate street names field at all?

I can't seem to be able to add/edit those.

The streetnames you add to the map are not used to search for it.
Waze has a different database with all the streetnames. This database is used for searching.

That's interesting... :?:
Where does the street-name database come from (how is it populated) and is it possible to verify it's validity and/or completeness? I'm asking since ideally the information that you see on the map should (in my opinion :) ) be synced with routing information. Otherwise you may see an object on the map, when you browse, but there's no way to "find" it when you use the search feature.
Can you direct me somewhere where there is more information about it?

Regarding my čžš/czs search concern, I tried it and I get the same result both times (if I use local characters or not), so it seems to work OK for foreigners and locals alike. Good :D
