Waze does not support area names

Post by rubpa
I think most cities in India are divided into areas(like Shivajinagar(in Bangalore/Pune), Worli(in Mumbai), etc.). However the street addresses in Waze do not have area field. Instead of seeing area names at certain zoom levels of cities, I see factory/company names! Like
  • Golden Chemicals, Crompton Greaves in Mumbai
  • Kirloskar, Cummins in Pune
  • BEML, Amco in Bangalore
Apparently these names are not single points/landmarks in waze but generated based on the city names of the streets in the maps. When I checked out a few of these names in Bangalore, I realised that a few streets in a single area are marked with these factory/company names in the city field :!: This is obviously misuse of city field and useless for lesser known names but may be useful for really popular names.

In general, I would expect area names at these zoom levels. How are editors on these forums handling these? Removing these bad city names?

How do we get area names support in waze?

While I would not claim this as a best practice, this is what I do

1. For areas in Greater Kolkata - I use the city/town/village names as the city name (E.g. New Town, Barrackpore, Narendrapur, etc... in and around Kolkata

2. For important crossings/traffic island, I create a small landmark (E.g PNB Island)

Anything bigger would probably not help in navigation. However, maybe it still would make sense to some users. Try raising it in the waze uservoice
