Vehicle types

Postby barkingmad15a » Fri Mar 01, 2019 12:57 pm

I use Waze daily to support my work, which is a sameday courier for UK & Europe. I currently use a small van but it would be very handy to have a greater range of vehicle types to account for the different speed limits. i.e in the UK a small van over 2 tons is restricted to 50mph on single carriageways & 60 mph on dual carriageways. Not having the correct information means ETA's are nearly always wrong! I am sure truck & coach drivers would find this handy too as they have different speed limits again.

Thanks

Waze have 2 attitudes to requests for new vehicle types to be selectable in the app.

  1. We don't support this vehicle type and never will, no matter how many times you ask us
  2. We have decided to support this vehicle type half of you never even asked about
Note also that this becomes massively more complicated when you talk about trucks because quantities matter. "Truck" is an utterly useless vehicle type. What matters is the height / width / length / weight / vehicle class etc, so nothing will work sensibly without quantities.

Trucks, coaches and quantities are firmly in category 1 and have been for the 6 years I've been with Waze. I wouldn't expect to see Waze handle them properly ever - although an unexplained flip to category 2 is always possible.

Note that the Waze Map Editor lists various vehicle types including truck. This is just plain stupidity on Waze's part. Not only is "truck" useless for the quantity reasons, but the app doesn't support most of the available types in WME. In fact, staff told us they would remove most of those types. They just never did so.
