Ability to enter vehicle max speed

Post by MNFISHINGGUY
As a OTR truck driver, my truck is governed to 63 mph. The ability, in personal settings or vehicle type (personal, taxi and add commercial), to enter my max speed to calculate route and eta would be useful.

A user could toggle between the different settings based on type of travel or vehicle use. As the user toggles the type, it would recalculate based on settings entered.

My current use, via personal vehicle, is extremely accurate. (Where I have no speed restrictions)

I've found, through trial and error, that using county roads or interstate/non-highway/freeway will produce a more accurate eta. County roads are typically posted at 55 mph versus the interstate/highway/freeway posted 65 to 80 mph.

The eta will adjust because of lower speed on the interstate.

I understand personal vehicles do not have the restrictions that a commercial vehicle does.

Also on the wish list, as a preferred fuel/gas station, please option the major truck stops: Pilot Travel Center, Flying J, Love's, Kwik Trip.

Thanks!!!

i do not know if waze takes these suggestions into account, but you never know ...

there are already at least 3 open suggestions on this subject, so far they have received few votes, vote for them !

I Iove this idea. Many transport trucks here are legally locked to 90 km/h. 10 km/h less than the maximum speed limit on highways in Ontario.

This is definitely worth doing especially as the ETA is greatly affected by the difference between max motorway/freeway speeds and speed limited vehicles.

Here in Ireland the speed limit for large trucks on motorways is 90 km/h vs 120 for cars and it's 80 vs 100 on national and some regional roads. Smaller commercial vehicles and private cars towing trailers & caravans are also limited to 80 on all roads irrespective of the posted limit.

This can also affect routing if you forget to select shortest route. Just last week, when I was driving my own car and trailer, I was directed to take the motorways which is not only 40 km longer than the more direct national/regional route but some 45 minutes slower when restricted to 80 vs 120.

I see that this is an old thread. But the usefulness of the user defined speed restriction is still high.

May the motor goddess and the Waze staff here our prairies soon.

Really missing this feature, I too drive a Defender and aim to stay below 60-65 mph on motorways, 50 mph on A roads.

It was certainly available in the old TomTom iPhone app, one could either have it set to all journeys by default in the settings or apply it to any individual journey in planning. Not so sure about the new TT Go as I moved to Waze when they stopped updating the original.

Would be a real asset if it could be implemented in future versions of Waze.

Since Waze uses the time you need to cross segments at a given time I would rate your chance of success with this request very low. Waze does not really calculate an ETA by dividing distance by speed, it adds the crossing times of all segments and then knows what the ETA will be.

I agree with the above. I drive 2 vehicles and for one the fastest route is ideal while for the other a slow Land Rover Defender even doing 100km is painful.
If you were able to input vehicle max speed it would open up the app to the entire truck driver community.

+1 Very good idea, in fact some vehicle are locked to 80kmh, sometimes 90kmh.
(Weather can also make the max speed lower for cars too btw (130kmh>110kmh in france).

+1 for this feature.

This would be ideal not just for trucks but classic cars, motorhomes, caravans/trailers, volvo drivers (just kidding), my max is 50mph/80Kph in a 55 year old camper van.

The trouble with the selection of a vehicle type is with trucks, it would need bridge heights and weights etc rather than just keeping it simple and having a max speed.

Has anyone found a competitor app with this functionality?

Online solutions are available
https://www.viamichelin.com/ allows a caravan option which slows the journey time.
https://en.mappy.com this gives all sorts of commercial vehicle options
