How would you map this Junction?

Post by CafeCarlos
Would you map the junction as....

A - Detailed small paths the car would take?

OR B - One road intersecting with another road?

If you were to name the street, would you name all three? Or just the one? What would the navigator give as instructions...

I disagree about the GPS points... Mostly because I never look at them. If the driver is turning left or right, and not "keeping right or left" Then the intersection should be simplified with only one street. Other issues get involved with turn instructions, and angles of the junctions. I think if it is greater than 200m then its time to make the split.

Generally, the map should be as simple as possible. So the single road is preferred.

However, if the distance between the connecting roads are so great that navigation instruction could be wrong or that the GPS could connect to wrong road then one could consider to have the connection split. The first is not so often a problem as the driver would be given a 200 m in advance warning.

A guidance on when to split is if one can see that the GPS-tracks are clearly separated.

Yes the split roads should be named.
