To our "Sg Map King" Mr. Digitium

First Encounter

As my previous msg falls on deaf ears, i did said i'll bring it to forum for discussions.
Last month when i first started using Waze, and i was at Orchard that time ... so i turn it on and just wanted to test it.
The first thing puzzles me, the final stretch of cavenagh rd leading to orchard rd had no name.
Only to realize the map is community based and had to be edited by user themselves.

So that's how i started editing but after afew days i noticed my edits of cavenagh rd in front of Holiday Inn which strangely overlapped by CTE was being modified again.
There it was Mr. Digitium and following which the rd beside starhub was also being changed from one to two lanes plus nearby landmarks were all changed too.
I asked myself why did he kept editing again and again !!!!

And it's not getting any better which is bewildering.

Why both lanes here leads to Starhub Ctr i ask myself ?

Why is the landmark at different zoom looks so awkward ?

The frequent editing at kramat , buyong and CTE follows, notice the different level in CTE underpass !!!

End result of latest updates... a CTE that runs over kramat rd and ferries pax from Supreme Hotel.

Second Encounter

Esp if you have travel geylang east and paya lebar before where you'll noticed the navigation jumps erratically.
Having the first experience, i feel might as well do my own town where circuit rd, aljunied cres, sims dr and geyland east which is forever under clouds and un-touch for a long time ... rather than engaging in a edit tug of war.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC00.png
So first thing fixed that junction than follow to plot carpark rds in order to add to gauge where to place the blks of flats.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC02.png
And so the initial base is done, more fine tuning needed as it's not complete w/o testing out routing and waiting for server update which is about 2 more weeks to be dl to client !!!

Than just 2 days of playing ninja under the clouds, comes Mr. digitium !!! (GARGAMEL)
Like finding new toys to play he visited 4 times aday, messing everything up ... changing all public building to others, reediting my landmarks for fun , altering my rds just to put his name in all as updater.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC03.png
Splitting my Basketball Assn into 3 buildings here .... S'pore Basketball Ctr(he dreamt of it), Geylang East Rec Ctr and Geylang East Swimming Pool and what's all the bullshit telling people adding addition 6 numbers postal code clutter the map... but added so many long names into my edit which is not even finalize.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC04.png
That really is the last card ... so i posted 6 landmark descriptions msg demanding he unlocked the 2 that he added wrong info... which he ignored !!!

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC05.png
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC06.png
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC07.png
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC08.png
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... e/AC09.png
Followed by rampant adding and editing of landmarks in my other un-completed areas ... if nicely done still acceptable but you guys look for yr-self.
Do such half past six job rather don't do. :ugeek:

Lessons to be learn by Map Editors

Time of truth .... let's go for pac-man tests !!!

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... /T01-1.png

Even when i was plotting GPS do jump lanes as you see those in red which is weird when 2 lanes stick to 1 so i can't 100 % draw the lanes accurately.
Results of roads plotted before hand and drawn ... 90% workable except few corners [in blue circles] which are in blindspot i guess and was missed by GPS.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... /T02-1.png

Now for the other side where map king decide to draw after my msg asking him to go elsewhere play.
Those in yellow was plotted by me and the carpark side he decide to draw free hand.
Results as you can see, only 50% on the portion which is drawn using psychic power penetrating clouds.
My super bike completed liao but GPS stuck at the circle part which actually had a short straight was not drawn.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... ze/T03.png

As for the last part Map King total free hand for blk 120 n 122 carpark, i got no comments nor time to waste... Own self crap own self wipe .
And thanks to you, my friend's block gets a face lift, hope he's adapting well to those sharp edges ...  :D

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/ ... ze/T04.png

So what i've learned here is plotting first saves lotsa time and routing isn't a simple thing.
It's hard to predict how GPS reacts to close proximity and blindspots.
Any fool with a map on hand can become a map editor but if routing doesn't work, than it's not a navigation device ... can only be considered a cosmetic map !!!

Dear Mr SpiderDroid... it's so odd that I happened to stop actively participating both as a Waze Editor, and a forum contributor just as you appeared on the scene... 4 kids and busy work schedules tend to do that some times...

And now as I have come back to have a looksee, it's amazing to find what was left since I last visited.

I have to give you kudos for actually posting to me. I do appreciate to effort.

Honestly a long time back, I editted streets merely for the fun of getting the roads "right". If you honestly believe that I wanted to do edits just to get the points, you are sadly mistaken.

And if you think I did it just to piss you off, then you should step back and take a look at your posts from an outsider's point of view.

Do consider that everything being equal, you and I (and anyone else) can edit each others' work.

Just because you see my name on an edit doesn't mean I:
1) changed the geometry of the road
2) added/amended/removed segments
3) changed directions
4) done anything
The vast majority of my edits were to change the street names from Road to Rd, and Street to St... as that was really irritating me since I started using Waze (as well as getting the names of expressways and exits consistent). So if you found a road that was wrong, and my name is on it, seriously, I didn't change all those geometry (mass editing of names using browser scripts really is a godsent).

Other edits (such as some you mentioned) include places that I thought were wrong (based on my personal drives there), and if it was changed (shortly after you did any changes yourself), I couldn't have timed it any better, since I don't simply choose to edit something based on what someone else did (apparently you think I'm tracking you or something, since you were "monitoring" what I was doing)

And with regards to type of buildings, addresses and the such... it's such a non-matter since Waze doesn't even use the address, type or postal code... no matter how long it is, hence the search doesn't even get affected. And I still stand by my Public Buidling is not equal to Residential Building stance, since Waze has clearly chosen to steer clear of Residential types (perhaps we should simply delete all such buildings, eh?)

I've had numerous discussions (usually PMs) with many other Area and Country Managers thoughout the Waze world, and the conclusion is that not everyone is ever happy... ..as with Hamster123, I do apologise if you think I have done something "against" you, but seriously it was nothing intentional.

So if you think you need to air your grievances, do continue to let me know if someone or something has gotten you riled up again... I am more than happy to discuss such issues, provided I can find the time to visit this forum again.
